There’s no way out of this. Ji-hoon may not be as large as Trent, but I have no hope of overpowering him.

Which means I have to die.

Ji-hoon slides the notebook to me again, and I grab the pen.

“What would you like me to write?”

“I’ll give you the words in English, but we’re essentially going to suggest that Trent’s repeated rapes compelled you to end your life.”

My jaw drops. “He did no such thing!”

“Spare me your offense. If you’d like the boys to live, you’ll do as I say.”

I bring the pen to the paper, and through gritted teeth, I say, “Then let’s begin.”

ChapterNineteen

GO GET YOUR GIRL

TRENT

It takes nearly an hour for me to arrive at the Keep, which is too fucking long for my comfort.

The whole time, I kept thinking about what this could mean. Suki was alone for months when that asshole scientist was safe within the walls of the Keep. Never once did he ask for a scouting mission. Never once did he care to check on them.

“I was never what he wanted and brought only shame.”

Her words fucking haunt me. She looked so dejected when she handed me that message. That’s not how a wife should look, and those words can’t mean anything good.

I press my hand to the bio scanner and enter the first chamber. There are way more barriers coming in from the ground floor than there are by helicopter, and right now, I’m not in the fucking mood.

I pull off my clothes, keeping my underwear on, and hold my hands up so the guy can buzz me in.

Come on…come on…

The light above the door goes from red to green, and I enter the next chamber, quickly pulling on a fresh pair of pants and a shirt.

Before I’m fully dressed, I exit the chamber and storm down the hall toward the dorms.

“Hey!” Christine calls. “You need an inspection.”

“Can’t!” I shout, hoping like hell she senses my urgency.

But as I round a corner, I run straight into Cole, our loosely anointed leader.

“Don’t make me make an example out of you—boy!” he growls, his face twisted into an angry snarl. “Because I am just itching—”

“Fuck all that!” I rush out. “Suki’s in danger!”

His brow upticks. “What makes you say that?”

My exhaustion catches up to me, and I bend over, panting for breath.

Blake joins us. “Do I need to drag this knucklehead back to Christine?”

“No, he has something to say.” Cole’s voice is concerned.

“Something’s not right with Suki. That weird scientist guy…he’s not a good man.”
