“How would you know this?”

“She told me as much on the outside.”

Cole shrugs. “Well, she seemed to have no problem going with him.”

Blake interrupts with, “You know, Selina says there’s something real weird about that situation.”

“The guy is fucking weird,” Cole says, “but that doesn’t mean he’s an asshole. He’s probably in his lab right now, anyway. It’s where he hangs during the day. There’s no need to rush and skip your inspection.”

“Actually, he didn’t go to the lab today,” Blake says. “Selina was going to check in on Suki, but she saw him heading back to the dorms after dropping the boys off.”

Fiery rage courses through my veins. “If you don’t get the fuck out of my way right the hell now, that fucking scientist won’t be the only one laid out tonight.”

Cole stares at me for a long moment before giving a curt nod. “Let’s go get your girl.”

We rush to the dorms, my gut twisting in knots. I hope this feeling I have is just worry. That Suki isn’t in real danger.

Whatever she’s suffered, it’s my fault. If I’d only escorted her to in-processing, I could have protected her. But I was selfish, and now she’s spent weeks with a goddamn monster.

When we arrive at her apartment, I go to pound my fist on the door, but Cole stops me, pressing his ‘skeleton’ keycard to the scanner.

The door opens into the living area. There’s a muffled sound coming from down the hall, and I take off towards it.

Suki’s crying, talking a mile a minute in Korean, then I hear a strangled choke.

Ah—fuck no!

I burst into the bedroom and see the fucker with his hands wrapped around her neck.

I launch myself forward, my shoulder catching the bastard in his ribs. There’s no fucking way I’m letting this douche-nozzle get away with this. He’s going six feet under.

We land on the bed, roll, and crash to the floor. I wind my arm back and punch him in the ribs. I hear a satisfying crack.

Then I punch him again.

“Easy now!” Cole yells, pulling me off him.

I roar with anger, pushing him away, but Blake grabs me from behind.

“You better stay the fuck out of this!” I scream, spit flinging from my mouth.

Cole gives the bastard a kick to the gut. “We’re on the same fucking side.”

“Then why’d you stop me?”

Cole looks down at Suki’s husband, who’s curled on the floor, clutching his stomach. “Because we don’t know what he’s been doing in that lab. It all looked harmless, but before we cast judgment, we need to be sure.”

SUKI

The men bark angrily at each other as I struggle to catch my breath.

For a moment, I wonder if I am dead. That I’ve conjured Trent in my mind as my avenging angel.

He’s being held back by Blake as Cole shouts down at him, taking an occasional shot at Ji-hoon. With how hard they’re going at him, he’ll be lucky if he only escapes with broken bones, because these men are twice Ji-hoon’s size and each of them look murderous.

Tears flood my eyes. I can’t believe I’m still here. If they had been even one minute later, I would be dead.
