The ride is just the start. I also have a special surprise tucked up my sleeve. It took a bit of research, but I found a special destination for my baby bat at the end of this ride.

“Do you still want to meet at my house?” I ask, tossing my keys and mail onto the counter.

“Yes, please. I want to see where you live.”

“You have the address I texted you earlier, right?”

“Yes, Daddy.”

“Great. Why don’t you shower and change? Be sure to wear jeans and those black boots in your closet. I think a long-sleeve shirt too. Head on over whenever you’re ready.”

“Okay, Daddy. I should be there in about an hour.”

“Drive safe, Tanner. See you soon.” Once the call disconnects, I set the phone on the counter and head to my bedroom to get ready.

My doorbell rings exactly fifty-seven minutes later. I’m greeted by my boy bouncing on his toes and trying to peek around my body to see the house. “Hi, Daddy! I’m ready for our date.”

“I see that.” I slowly rake my gaze over him. Appreciation blooms in the pit of my stomach as I take in the way his black jeans are molded around his legs and cute butt. The long-sleeve shirt he picked out is dark gray with tiny black bats sprinkled all over it. “Cute shirt.”

He tugs at the bottom hem, lifting it away from his body. “Thank you. You wouldn’t tell me where we are going, so I hope this is okay.”

It’s more fitting than he could ever know, but I can’t spill all my secrets yet. “It’s perfect. Come on in, let me show you around before we go.”

Stepping to the side, I let Tanner enter the house, only stopping his forward progress to plant a kiss on the top of his head. “Kitchen and living room through here,” I say, giving him a short five-cent tour.

“Oh wow! Your fireplace is so cool.”

“The previous owners remodeled this place before I bought it. There are a few modern upgrades, but most of the house has stuck to its original design. The woodwork on the staircase is my favorite thing. The original owner built it himself.” I gesture to the intricate patterns carved into the railings.

“Whoa, fancy.” Tanner reaches out, gently brushing his finger over one of the wood flowers. “What’s upstairs?”

“Two bedrooms and an empty office,” I say. I never intended to leave that room bare, holding only a few random storage items. But without a boy, my dream of a playroom in the space has gone unfulfilled. “Nothing overly exciting,” I add.

“You can show me your bed later, Daddy.” Tanner tugs my hand. “I want to see your Harley.”

Guiding him to the garage with a chuckle, I watch as Tanner’s mouth drops open. His reaction is everything I could’ve hoped for. For all the hours I’ve put into the bike, knowing someone else sees the beauty in it makes my chest puff up.

“Can we go for a ride?” he asks with all the wonder of a small child.

“That’s the plan. But first, you’ll need this.” I gesture to the black leather jacket and shiny helmet hanging over the bed of my truck.

“Is that for me?” Tanner rushes for the jacket, slipping it on before I can answer. “Oh my god, this is so cool. Do I look like a badass, Daddy?”

“The baddest,” I say with a smile, placing the helmet on his head. “Let me get it started, then you can climb on.”

He moves out of the way while I swing my leg over the seat. The engine turns over, the rumbling sound echoing in the garage and settling in my chest. I beckon a wide-eyed Tanner with my finger. “Plant your left foot on the peg here, then swing your other leg over. Watch your calves on the mufflers!” I shout over the noise.

Like a pro, Tanner places his hand in mine and climbs on behind me. He immediately plasters himself against my back and squeezes around my middle, his fingers barely linking together at the front. His groin slides right against my ass, and for a second, I’m hoping he’ll grind that dick of his against me before I remind myself how much it sucks to ride with an erection.

“Ready?” I call over the rumble below us.

He nods against my back. “Ready!” I can feel the nerves vibrating under his skin. I pat his hand with mine, then return it to the handlebar, shifting gears. Putting us in motion, I turn out of the driveway and onto the main road.

Two seconds in, and this is the best ride I’ve had in my life.

EIGHTEEN

Livingin Colorado all my life means nothing at this moment. As the cool air whips around us, silhouettes of trees blurring alongside the road, I can say with absolute confidence I have never seen anything like this.
