Reaper’s head spun around and he shot me a disbelieving look. “Last time I checked, I was still in charge here, Viper.”

I rose from the floor to stand in front of Reaper. It wasn’t my intent to challenge his authority, but I couldn’t stand back and let Poe’s friend die if I could help it. “You are, Reaper, but since it was me who had their processors hacked, I am entitled to decide the female’s fate. Can you really condemn Poe’s friend to death? I find I can not, not even after what she has done.” I crossed my arms over my chest and locked my knees, my stance making it clear that I refused to back down.

“Please, Reaper,” Poe whispered. “I’ll leave with her if you want me to, just don’t make me watch her die without trying to save her.”

Reaper let out a frustrated sigh. “I told you before that once you were a member of the cyborg rebellion, you were one forever.” Reaper dropped to his knees, meeting Poe’s red rimmed eyes. “If she lives, know that if at any time I feel she is plotting another attempt to hurt those I love, I will not hesitate to terminate her, and you will not have a say in the matter. Think carefully before you agree.”

Poe took a deep breath and nodded. “Thank you…thank you.” She threw her arms around Reaper’s neck, hugging him hard. “She will prove herself to you, just you watch.”

Reaper patted her back. “I hope you are right.” He stood up and looked at Dax. “Fix her.”

“Already started to,” Dax stated without a hint of remorse.

Reaper growled and Dax shrugged. “What? I refuse to let someone die on my watch, especially my female’s friend. Poe would have been devastated. It is my mission to make suremy femaleis never devastated, not if I can help it.”
