“I’ll buy you another one for fuck’s sake. Just read the damn note.”

Star joins me at the bottom of the stairs, looking between us all and seeking some kind of explanation for all the noise and panic.

Kavanagh reads over the note, his brow furrowing deeply. “Where did you get this?”

“Well, that’s a funny fucking story actually. It involves a dead woman, one of my men and a fuck load of coke being kept at a warehouse in Surrey in exchange for our territory.”

Kavanagh’s eyes widen but not in surprise, in humour, then he lets out a laugh. He pulls his phone from his pocket, and after a few minutes, passes it over to Maddox.

“How?”

“I set up a tracking app on the phone I gave her, one she’ll never know is there. I know you’re a man that calculates every move you make, Maddox, I do too. It’s why Theo always trusted you. And is why I’m now trusting Theo’s judgment from the grave to also trust you both. Whatever plan you made to take down Rogers would have been solid except you could never have factored in Star and her role in all of this. I have something I need to share with you both, but let’s get Little Miss Mischief back first.”

Maddox has passed me the phone while Kavanagh was talking, and I see exactly where she is. “Putting everything else aside for the moment, you do know where the fuck this is right?” I point to the screen before handing it back to Kavanagh.

“Of course, I fucking know where it is. I own it.”

“It just gets better and fucking better. I’m starting to wonder if you’re not the fucking puppet master here, Kavanagh,” Maddox snaps sarcastically.

“Wouldn’t that make a great twist,” he jests with a dark smirk.

“Not for you it fucking wouldn’t,” I counter quickly with a hard glare, as Kavanagh’s phone rings.

“It’s Smithy. Let him in and he can watch over Star while we’re gone.”

“Yeah, no fucking way,” barks Maddox, shaking his head.

“Unless one of you plans to stay behind then I don’t see you have a choice.”

Maddox and I share a look, asking that exact question, and I read the apprehension in Maddox’s eyes but nonetheless, he nods at me before turning to Kavanagh.

“Fine. Just so we’re fucking clear, if he fucks up and something happens to Star or Maria, it’s on your head. And make no fucking mistake”—Maddox steps toward Kavanagh, rising in height—“I’ll have no fucks to give about putting a bullet in your brain.”

“I pull the trigger myself if anything happens to Star. Now if you’re done with the threats, shall we.”

Maddox and Kavanagh eye one another for another minute or so before he turns away to go and let Smithy in.

Star watched the whole scene with a look of deep concern and conflict on her face, and I can tell that she’s torn about watching two men she’s known since she was a child threatening each other because of her safety.

“Hey, you going to be okay?” She nods, and I take her hand, giving it squeeze just as Smithy strolls through the still open front door.

“I’m good. Just make sure Roxy is.”

Maddox chats to Kavanagh and Smithy while I run to my room to grab a gun. On the way out of my room, I notice something missing from the corner of my room, and I get hard at the image of her wielding my bat.

When I get to the car, Maddox says, “What the fuck you smiling about?”

“Oh, you’ll see soon enough,” I reply cryptically, as he begins to drive.

Roxy

Idon’t bother changing the black skinny jeans and grungy rockstar top I’m wearing because they are perfect. I pin my hair into an almost Mohawk, finishing off the look with smoky eyes, and my little weapon of destruction, which I stop off and collect on my way out.

I check Tommy’s location again as I get in the car, then set off before anyone notices I’ve gone. From my search on Google maps, Tommy is at a warehouse down by the docks and aside from that, I’ve no idea what I’ll find there.

The location is a small industrial estate with a bunch of warehouses, similar to the one I came to with Maddox. After parking a little down the road away from the warehouses, I make my way on foot along the back of the row with Zak’s bat slung over my shoulder and keeping to the sides of the buildings in case of any security cameras. I also have the gun Kavanagh gave me because I’m not stupid enough to bring just a bat to a gun fight. The first three are locked with no sign of anyone inside.
