She trembled in my arms but kept quiet. A few minutes later, Doc handed Stormy a shot of tequila and a brownie. She threw the shot back and nibbled on the brownie while answering Stone’s questions.

“Has anything unusual happened this week?”

“Yes. Sunday night when I came home, I found my kitchen window open. I always double check before I leave the house.”

“Is that all?”

“No, every day I had a package at my door, but I think those are from Gambit. Plus, something inside the house was always moved.”

She thought the gifts were from me. My gut tightened at the thought of this creep being close to her for a week without my knowledge.

“I had Papa deliver my gifts. I wanted to make sure you received them.”

“The gifts were themed.”

“What do you mean?”

“Monday, I wore a shirt that mentioned coffee and that night I had a gift basket with gourmet coffee. The kind you have to grind, a grinder and one of those poured over coffee makers. Thirty minutes later Stone left.

“Stormy, can I see the scars under your breasts?” Doc asked softly.

Tears rolled down her face. “Can we do it tomorrow?”

“Of course, no rush. You let me know when you want to go tight shopping.”

“What did you give me earlier? It helped a lot.”

“Propranolol. It’s my personal prescription. I need them sometimes for anxiety. I wouldn’t recommend using another person’s medication. Since I’m a doctor, I can prescribe some for you. I also recommend therapy. I’ll find a good one for you if you’d like.”

“I don’t have insurance.”

“You do now,” I said. “I’ll have Wizard get you added to the policy first thing in the morning.”

“Thank you,” she said before bursting into tears. Great, heaving sobs. I held her, murmuring soothing words while she cried it out. Doc slipped out quietly, leaving the room to us.

Stormy jolted upright, nearly falling from my lap.

“Where am I going to stay? My place isn’t safe. I don’t have enough money for another deposit. Let alone another first and last month's rent.”

“You’ll stay with me, bébé. I have a small suite of rooms. It’s the old captain's quarters. In a couple of months, we’ll be in the new place. My suite there is much bigger.”

“I don’t want to impose on you.”

“You’re not imposing. I want you with me. I want to go to sleep with you by my side at night and wake up with you in the morning.”

“I can sleep on the couch.”

“You’re sleeping in my bed.”

“Umm.” She hung her head.

I slid my hand under her chin, giving it gentle pressure. “Look at me, bébé.”

Stormy’s blue eyes met mine.

“From tonight until your birthday, all I plan on doing is sleeping. I want to fall asleep with you in my arms every night.”

Fuck, when did I become that guy? Giving Stormy comfort means more to me than burying my cock deep inside her and finding some much-needed relief.
