“How did I get so lucky?”

“I’m the lucky one, bébé. How about we get you in a nice bubble bath?”

“I’d like that.”

“Give me one minute. Then I’ll take you to our rooms.”

I shot off a quick text to Ito to let him know to blow out the candles in the room. What should’ve been a night of romance and claiming my woman. Turned into hell. Five minutes later, I helped Stormy to her feet and led her to my suite.

I put my hand in the small of her back, guiding her to my king-sized bed.

“Why don’t you lay down? I’ll get a bath ready, then order some food.”

She nodded, laying down before curling onto her side. I covered her with a throw blanket that miraculously appeared this morning. After I tucked her in, I headed to the bathroom. Ito did a good job of cleaning up the candles and rose petals. We’ll have another night, and it will top this one.

Smiling, I started the tub before going to the linen closet. Pink fluffy towels sat on top of his white utilitarian ones. A basket of bath products that smelled like honeysuckle sat next to the towels. I gathered everything, pouring a generous amount of honey almond milk bubbles in the tub. Another item from the basket.

Nola set the whole thing up. She snuck in after brunch when Pops gave Stormy the grand tour. My sister has her own ensuite here. We built her a suite just off the other side of my office.

She did all the shopping and used her room for storage. Nola has a credit card of mine, but with her name on it. I opened it for her when I went into the military for emergencies. Not that Pops couldn’t handle anything financially, but sometimes girls need things that dads don’t understand.

This is the first time I asked her to use it on an errand for me. Earlier in the day, she sent me pictures of the room. Pink rose petals, Stormy’s favorite, made a trail from the door to the love seat. Another new thing in my suite, along with the coffee table, and killer couch. Chocolates and a bottle of chilled champagne sat on the coffee table. Along with the gifts I’d asked Nola to special order last week.

Petals led from the love seat to the bed before leading to the bathroom. A few dozen pink and ivory candles were lit, lending to the romantic environment. Nola enlisted Chardonnay and Kelsi to help her.

The tub was filled half-way. Time to get my girl. Stormy was still curled on her side wide awake.

“Your bath is ready, my Queen.”

She sat up, a small smile turned up one corner of her mouth. I held out my hand. When she took it, I pulled her gently upwards and brushed a sweet kiss across her lips. We walked silently into the bathroom, hand in hand.

I turned off the water and showed her the towels.

“Do you need help?”

“No. Thank you.”

“You can wear something of mine until tomorrow. We’ll be able to get into your apartment and get some clothes.

She stood on her tiptoes, initiating another kiss.

“Thank you for everything.”

“Bébé, I need to handle a few things. Would you mind if Cosmo or Papa sat outside the room?

“Could they sit inside the room?”

“Of course. Whatever makes you most comfortable. I’ll bring back food. What would you like?

“Pizza with mushrooms and extra, extra cheese. Also, if you could find real breadsticks with jalapeno cheese sauce.”

“Real breadsticks?”

“Yes, the kind shaped like an actual stick, round. Similar in shape and size to what Olive Garden serves. Those, other ones, are not bread sticks. They are flat. Call them bread planks. That’s a more accurate description.”

I couldn’t help but smile at her passionate speech about breadsticks. Rage still burned hot within me. I didn’t want to leave her, but I knew I needed to vent some of this anger.
