Gambit
There was a soft knockat the door.
“I’ll be back soon. I love you.”
“I love you back.”
Too soon to say the words? I don’t give a fuck. I said them. I meant them and I intended to show her how much every day.
I left, closing the bathroom door behind me and heading to open the door to my suite. I’d expected Cosmo or Papa, but my sister stood on the other side of the door. And she wasn’t alone.
“I brought reinforcements for girl time,” Nola said, leading four other women into my room. All of them had their arms full.
“What’s all this?”
“I figured you’d need to bust some shit up. Papa told me about Honu and said there’s someone after Stormy. There’s more too, isn't there?” his sister whispered.
“A lot more, but it’s her story to tell. She’s not in a good place right now, ladies. My sister is right. I need to hit something before I hit someone. I’m about to lose my fucking mind.”
I turned to look at the ladies. Chardonnay, Willow, Kelsi, and someone I’d never met before. She had long black hair pulled into a low ponytail. Her almond-shaped eyes were a deep sapphire blue. I’d guess her to be around five feet tall. She held a few bakery boxes.
She stepped forward, “Hi I’m Fallon. I’m co-owner of Cauldron Cakes. Papa called and told me a little about what happened. I showed up with chocolate.
Papa raved about the place. Stormy stumbled onto it last week and Papa gave her money every night to bring in more baked goods from Cauldron Cakes.
“Thank you, Fallon. Have you met my sister Nola and the other ladies?”
She smiled and nodded. “We introduced ourselves in the hall. You go do what you gotta do. We’ll take care of Stormy for the next few hours.”
I pulled Nola into a quick hug, giving her a kiss on the cheek before thanking the other ladies and heading out the door.
Chardonnay met me at the door. “I got this, Prez. If I can’t handle it, I’ll call Doc.”
“Thanks, Nay.”
She practically shoved me out the door and right into Papa. I saw him give her a look. Could my brother be interested in Nay for something more?
