Chapter 41

Stormy

We made love threemore times last night. I woke before sunrise, carefully extricating myself from Gambit’s warm embrace. After a quick bathroom stop, I pulled on a pair of yoga pants and an oversized t-shirt. Slipping on my tennis shoes I grabbed Honu’s leash and headed to the living room.

The great beast was fast asleep on his bed. I knelt down on the carpet running my fingers through his dense fur.

“Come on, sweet boy. Let’s go for a walk.”

While Honu stopped to get a drink of water, I shot off a quick text to the Cauldron.

Gambit wants to get married on Samhain. HELP!

After hitting send, I took the leash in my hand and opened the door. I wouldn’t need it unless we went off the compound. Honu and I headed out behind the clubhouse. We’d been so busy since I started working here that I didn’t have time to explore the club’s property.

The property’s original twenty-three acres were expanded to sixty acres by a recent club purchase. We ambled away from the clubhouse. It was still early, and everyone else was asleep. Or if they were awake, no one was stirring. The clubhouse was silent when I walked through earlier. We didn’t see anyone as we continued our walk.

The compound had a few outbuildings not far from the main hotel. We turned the two largest into apartments for visiting club members. We were currently at full capacity from last night's bash. There were even a few RVs parked out front. Honu walked beside me as we left the buildings behind and headed out further. Ten minutes later we stumbled up on what looked to be an old flower garden. The beds had gone completely to ruin.

Gambit told me about the origins of the property and his mother. Both Landry men mentioned Anna Landry’s love for flowers. An idea formed in my mind as we traversed the path. My phone dinged with messages. The group must be awake. Several more messages hit her phone as she opened the group chat. After reading all the replies and looking at the clock, I asked everyone to meet me at Black Magic Brew. A coffee shop I found a couple of weeks ago.

I ruffled the top of Honu’s head.

“Come on, boy. You can go with me.”

We jogged back and snuck in the room quietly. Gambit was still out. I left him a note on the bathroom mirror letting him know where I was going. Twenty minutes later I sat outside with a giant cappuccino and a pumpkin muffin. So, sue me. I love pumpkin stuff. Not so much pumpkin spice stuff.

Willow arrived first. She, like the rest of the Cauldron, spent the night at the compound. We could have met there but I might be addicted to Black Magic’s coffee. Hey, maybe they used black magic to draw in the customers. That would make a great storyline.

Willow came back a few minutes later with coffee and a muffin. She just sat down when the rest of the cauldron arrived. After quick hello’s they went inside to order.

“That man’s in a hurry to put a ring on it.”

“I’ll be honest, it took me by surprise. He blew me away wanting to get married on my favorite holiday.”

“It is super sweet. Girl, I’ve known him for four years and I’ve never seen him like this with a woman. He’s gone for you.”

“That’s good because I’m gone for him. I didn’t even know this kind of love existed outside books.”

Nola sat down beside me, slipping Honu a dog biscuit. The coffee shop carried homemade ones. I kept forgetting to ask who made them.

“My brother is so in love with you. I bet you're the only thing he dreams about.”

I laughed. “Think so?”

“I do. It’s so cute seeing him head over heels. I bet Pops was that way with Mom.”

“We should ask.”
