“We have brunch in a few hours.”

Nay, Fallon and Kelsi joined us. We spent the next hour laughing and talking about wedding themes. I’ve planned more than a dozen weddings for my characters, but I’ve never given mine much thought.

I stood up stretching. “Can you lovely ladies monitor Honu? I need to recycle that cappuccino.”

“Who are you calling a lady?” Nay asked, a mischievous grin on her face.

“Not the dog. Love you.” I blew her a kiss and headed inside.

After recycling and washing my hands. I looked in the mirror. My reflection smiled back at me. I can’t believe this is my life. I’m marrying the man of my dreams. Made enough money to launch my next book series. And I have an ever-growing family. My life in a word is perfect.

I smoothed my hair tucking it behind my ear before exiting the bathroom. Rough hands grabbed me from behind. I screamed and struggled.

“I like it when you struggle, it only makes it better.”

I froze. I knew that voice. Ty. FUCK! This time when I screamed, I put my full lung power behind it.

“FIRE!!!”

At the same time, I yelled. I brought my head back hard against Ty’s nose. He screamed. The door burst open. An enraged Caucasian shepherd snarling and hurling in our direction. My Cauldron was not far behind. Ty let go of me before shoving me in Honu’s path.

My sweet boy did his best to avoid me, but we collided. His snarl turned into a soft whimper. I didn’t know if he was hurt or worried, he’d hurt me. My Cauldron arrived at our sides taking immediate action. Nola was by my side, looking me over with one while dialing the cell.

“Pops, get Gambit. Stormy’s been attacked at Black Magic Brew.”

Nay knelt beside me. “Does anything hurt? Did he strike you?”

I took a few moments to feel my body. The adrenaline still rushed through my veins. My heartbeat and breathing are rapid. Nothing hurt.

“I think I’m okay. Is Honu alright?”

In response, he licked her face.

“Can you stand, boy?”

The dog stood, then nudged me. He looked heartbroken.

“It’s not your fault. Ty’s a coward. He’s always been a coward.”

“Let’s bring our focus back on you, Stormy. As uncomfortable as that floor is, I’d like to wait a few minutes and let the adrenaline subside from your body. That hot alpha of yours should arrive any moment now. He can carry you until we’re sure you didn’t twist your ankle. It can take up to an hour for adrenaline to completely fade.”

“How do you know all this?”

“I’m in my last school year to become a NP. Next year I’ll start my residency at Mercy General. ”

“Wow, Nay. That’s exciting!”

“Here you thought I was just in it for the sex.”

“You did say you like sex.”

“I do.”

Nay had effectively distracted me to the point I’d missed the roar of engines.

The door flew open with Gambit leading the charge.
