“Ah, this is good,” Oleg muttered, “but we have another problem, a serious problem. We have a smelly egg.”

“I think you mean rotten egg,” Marco corrected him with the hint of a smile.

“Ah, rotten egg,” Oleg repeated. “I will remember. We must find our rotten egg. One of my friends I spoke of back in my country—he told me the FBI knows of our alliance. Yours and mine. There must be a rotten egg in your organization.”

“My organization?” Marco exclaimed. “Your friend is wrong.”

“I thought it was this woman, but if it isn’t her, we must find out who it is and deal with that person. You are the one with the friends here. This must be your job. But I have already taken steps to make sure our deal continues safely. I can only tell you these details alone.”

Oleg looked up at his men and jerked his head.

They marched quickly from the room.

Marco caught Joe’s eye.

He followed, along with Marco’s other two bodyguards.

“Okay, it’s just us,” Marco declared. “What are these steps?”

“The delivery details have changed,” Oleg declared. “Only the three of us will know it. You, me, and Ivan. When you go to the location, you must make sure you’re not followed.”

“Not a problem,” Marco assured him.

“But this girl,” Oleg muttered, pointing at the picture, “she still worries me. She has not been seen for a few days.”

Marco took a breath.

Oleg could know Steph was with him.

It could be a test.

“That’s because I have her,” Marco said, keeping a poker face.

He studied Oleg’s expression.

No flicker crossed his eyes.

An eyebrow didn’t lift.

His lips didn’t offer the hint of a smile.

But Ivan was a different story.

A scowl crossed his forehead.

“This is good,” Oleg said with a nod. “We will go now.”

“You still haven’t provided me with the new delivery information.”

“We live in a fishbowl world,” Oleg said, leaning back in his chair. “Everywhere there are videos, bugs, cameras. The FBI and CIA—they have equipment that can listen through walls. It’s the same in my country, so I will not speak any details here, but you will receive the details soon.”

“Your caution is understandable,” Marco replied, but to his alarm, he noticed Ivan had dropped his arms below the table.

Worried about a potential threat, Marco kept his eyes fixated on him, and rested his finger on the smoke bomb button.

Oleg coughed.

“Excuse me,” he grunted. “Dry throat.”
