“I’m the one asking the questions.”

“This is so embarrassing.”

“You should be embarrassed. Besides almost giving me a heart attack and lying to me, that stunt was ridiculous.”

“Sorry,” she whispered. “Honestly, I’m not just saying that.”

“I’m still waiting for an answer. Why did you do it? Tell me right now.”

“Okay, okay,” she mumbled, letting out a heavy breath. “I woke up and I was feeling shaky and I didn’t want to be alone, but I wasn’t about to go searching the house for you.”

“So you decided to scream and hope I’d come running.”

“Uh, yeah…” she admitted, looking as if she wanted to crawl under the covers.

“Bianca, you don’t strike me as the shy type.”

“Usually I’m not. Am I forgiven?”

“Yes, but it’s not that simple, not with me,” he replied, rising to his feet and walking around to the other side of the bed.

“Are you—are you staying?” she stammered.

“Yep,” he replied, climbing in beside her. “Now turn out that light. I need to go back to sleep.”

* * *

Relieved and happy, Bianca switched off the bedside lamp and slid back between the sheets. He was resting on his side and his back was toward her, but snuggling next to him, she draped an arm over his waist.

She hadn’t told him the whole truth.

When he’d held her in his muscled arms at the water’s edge, she’d never wanted the moment to end, and the wicked glint in his smoldering dark eyes had caused the butterflies in her stomach to flutter more than once. When she’d let out the scream and brought him running, she’d been hoping to have his strong body next to hers for the rest of the night.

Now she wanted more.

She ached to feel his lips crush hers in an endless, passionate kiss as he pinned her wrists above her head and thrust his cock in and out of her hungry pussy. Closing her eyes and inhaling his musky, masculine scent, she pressed her breasts into his back. She heard him take a breath. Daring to push the envelope, she slid her hand past his belly button to the waistband of his boxers.

“Goodnight, Bianca.” His voice was low, deep, and authoritative.

It made her toes curl.

“Goodnight, Nick,” she breathed, wriggling against him. “Thank you for being here with me.”

“Bianca…?”

“Yes, Nick?”

“I know you want more than just my company, and that’s okay, I’m flattered, but if anything happens between us it will be started by me. Do we understand each other?”

“Uh, sure,” she managed, taken aback by his comment, and relieved he couldn’t see the fresh scarlet flush burn across her face.

“At least you don’t deny it,” he mumbled, then to her delight and surprise, he grabbed her hand and locked his fingers into hers. “There’s one last thing you should know. I don’t want a response, but I do want you to think about it.”

“Okay.”

“You cried wolf. That’s bad, Bianca, especially in a situation like this.”

“I said I was sorry.”
