“I take it you’re ready to meet Jerry.”

“I suppose I have to be,” Emma replied. “Everyone talks about him like he’s a king.”

“He is a King, especially in this building!”

“I met his wife Tia once, at a fashion show. Should I mention that?”

“Only if it seems appropriate, and now you have to go,” Zach said as Martha walked around her desk.

But as they left, Kurt unexpectedly flashed through Zach’s head yet again. Telling himself to get a grip, he shook it off and returned to his desk.

WHILE MARTHA AND EMMAwere making their way to Jerry Goldman’s Office, Angelo and Anna Lee were parking on the street near the Continental Pictures building.

“This is a good sign,” Anna said with a happy smile. “It’s not easy to park around here.”

“I know, and I’m relieved. I don’t trust valets,” Angelo remarked. “I’m still amazed Zach agreed to this meeting.”

“He’s a bit like Simon Cowell. If he thinks he’s found a talent, he’ll do whatever he can to help that person succeed.”

Climbing from the car, they walked down the block, pushed through the heavy glass doors, and across to the guard sitting behind a large granite counter in the lobby.

“Hello, Anna,” he said with a welcoming smile. “You can go right up. Mr. Taylor is expecting you.”

“Thanks, Lou. How are you?”

“Good, thanks for asking. You?”

“Couldn’t be better,” Anna replied.

“Is it Anna or Anna Lee?” Angelo asked as they stepped into the elevator.

“Anna, but because I’m billed as Anna Lee Pickford, I’m often called Anna Lee. Lou was my first friend when I got here. We’d have coffee and he’d tell me what he knew about the business, which is plenty. He really helped me.”

Stepping from the elevator on the second floor, they walked towards Zach’s office. She suspected the staff was used to celebrities moving through the hallways, but Angelo was receiving more than the usual amount of admiring glances. Reaching Martha’s reception area they found it empty, but Zach’s door was open. Stepping forward, she lightly knocked.

“Come on in,” Zach called. “Martha had to step away for a minute.”

“Thank you so much for agreeing to see us,” Angelo said enthusiastically, striding forward and shaking his hand. “I know it’s not protocol.”

“I can’t say no to Anna,” he replied with a grin, “but I am pressed for time. How can I help?”

“As Anna told you, we want to talk about Moonbeams and Fairy Dust,” Angelo replied. “I know you’re busy so I’ll get right to the point. The main character—he’s great—but I’d like to point out a few things. ”

AS MARTHA AND EMMAwalked through the double doors and entered Jerry’s reception area, Martha was bewildered. She’d been there more times than she could count, and not once had Kevin been away from his desk.

“He’s probably in with Jerry,” Emma suggested. “Why don’t you knock.”

“We are expected so I suppose I could,” Martha replied thoughtfully. Hoping it was okay, she lightly tapped.
