Before I could move,Noah swung his legs around and crawled toward me with a wicked grin. My heart raced as he drew closer, anticipation flooding my veins. As soon as he was close enough, I reached out and wrapped my hands around the back of his neck to draw him to me.

He was a breath away when he stopped. I tried to lean forward to close the frustratingly small distance, but he tugged back. The teasing glint in his eyes made me smile. He pressed on my shoulder until I was on my back before continuing his advance.

I pushed my fingers through his curls, savoring the silky feeling that was uniquely him. With one more teasing motion, he pulled back enough to meet my eyes. Even though he said nothing, I could see his feelings clearly. The desire, the appreciation, the caring, maybe even something else that I wasn’t ready to consider.

Finally, he lowered himself until his soft lips pressed to mine. My heart thrust against my chest, nearly bursting.

I tightened my grip on his hair and moved my lips against his. It had been too long. I missed his touch, his taste.

One of his hands slid around my neck, holding me like I was something precious while the other slid down my shoulder and the length of my arm before resting on my hip. His tongue traced my bottom lip, and I greedily opened to him, sucking until a moan escaped him.

I smiled as he lifted his head enough to gaze down at me with lustful eyes. “Ave.” He whispered my name like a prayer before trailing his lips down my neck. I tilted my head, and he lightly dragged his teeth along my sensitive skin. I dug my fingers into his shoulders.

His lips were back on mine, stirring the need inside me. I had to feel him. More. I reached to the bottom of his shirt and tugged it up enough to slide my hands up his smooth back. I savored each inch of warm, hard muscle. The hand on my hip moved enough to gain access to my stomach, and his gentle touch sent a shiver through me.

I wanted more. I craved the feel of his skin on mine.

The sound of a throat clearing made me freeze, my lips pressed against Noah’s, and my hands under his shirt. My own was up several inches, displaying skin where he didn’t cover me. Noah slowly lifted off me.

“Shit.” He mumbled, and I closed my eyes trying to make myself vanish. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my ability.

“You guys are so lucky.” Gavin laughed.

I relaxed. At least it was him, not his parents. The fact he was laughing caught me off guard. Maybe our talk really was helpful for him.

I sat up and tugged my shirt down. “Sorry, we got carried away.”

“My parents have some news, so I volunteered to come get you.”

“They’re here?” I asked. Wouldn’t they have come through the garage? I realized then that the mats covered the entire floor of the two-car area, so they must be parking on the driveway.

“Yeah, they got home a minute ago. They called on their way and told me to be here as well.”

Noah stood and offered me his hand to help me. Gavin held open the door and Noah went back inside. Gavin stopped me when I got to him. He kissed my cheek, and I smiled up at him.

“Did you guys have fun at Sky’s?”

“Yeah, we haven’t played together in a while.”

I felt a bit guilty, but they were free to get together whenever they wanted. I couldn’t take the blame for that. “I’m glad that you guys hung out.”

We headed through the hall to the living room where Noah sat across from Daniel and Tessa. They were smiling and talking, so I wasn’t too nervous when I sat next to him. Hopefully, this was good news, but I never knew what was coming next when it came to the Society.

“Hi, Avalon, I’m so glad you got more practice in. How are you feeling?” Tessa asked.

“Good,” I smiled. “I think I’m a lot more comfortable with the moves.”

“She did really well,” Noah confirmed. “She didn’t hold back at all and got some really good hits in.”

“That’s great,” Daniel commended.

“We’re so proud of how far you’ve come, and so quickly,” Tessa added. “I can only imagine how frustrating it’s been feeling like you’re alone or don’t have answers. We’ve been reaching out to everyone we could, and we finally have news.”

I looked between her and Daniel. “Really?”

He nodded and Tessa continued, “A member in Chile has a similar ability, she can shield herself, but it acts as a second skin rather than something that comes out and surrounds her.”
