He groaned while I pretended like there wasn’t a very large . . . something between us. I couldn’t even think the word. What was wrong with me?

“Ave?”

“Hmm?” I held his gaze.

“Remember on the cruise?”

I groaned. If he brought up me walking in on him again, I was going to dunk him.

“Not that.” He laughed, and I tilted my head. “Remember when I said people assume I’m more experienced than I really am?”

I nodded. I’d been surprised when he told me he was a virgin, mostly because of his willingness to shed his clothes with zero concern of who saw him.

“I think that’s happening right now.”

I leaned away from him. “What do you mean?”

He glanced down again and closed his eyes while sucking in a breath. “You’re the first, um, woman I’ve seen.”

I bit my lip to keep from smiling. “What are you saying, Sky?”

He opened his eyes, noticed my barely contained expression, and glared. “I’m saying you pressing up against me is a new thing. You might think I have all the self-control in the world, but I really, really don’t.”

I pulled further back and slid my hands down his arms until we were holding hands, with at least two feet between us. “So that was too much?”

He sucked in a breath. “Yes? No? I don’t really know.”

This was so unlike him. A mind-blown expression flickered in the low light across his face. “Don’t get me wrong. I like it. A lot.” He shook his head, and water droplets flung around him. “I love it actually. Holding you like that is probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

My resistance broke, and I let my grin spread wide.

He noticed and winked. “I know I’m probably screwing this moment up, and if any guy knew what I was doing, they would drown me for wasting this opportunity, but I kind of want to savor it.”

I nodded. “Okay.”

I wasn’t sure what he meant, but I was fine with doing whatever he needed.

He pulled me a bit closer and put his hands on my waist. “A very large part of me wants to kiss you and let the rest of the world disappear.”

“A large part?” I raised a brow and glanced down between us.

He barked out a laugh. “Yeah, that part. But I just want to enjoy this.”

“This?” I cocked my head.

“Being here with you, alone.”

“And no kissing?” I clarified.

He released one hand and ran it over his face. “Shit. No. That’s not what I meant either.”

I put my hands on his neck and waited for him to look at me. “I’m not going anywhere. This isn’t our one and only chance to be together. It’s okay.”

He nodded once. “I don’t want to skip a bunch of steps and never get a chance for just this again.”

“So don’t. Let’s go slow.” Since when was I the one taking charge and acting like I knew what I was doing?

“I . . .” He didn’t finish.
