She put her hand over her chest. “That’s amazing. You got to meet their families?”

“It was a blur, and everyone left immediately after. So kind of, but not really.”

“The apartment sounds sweet. When can we come over?” Daniel asked.

“The apartment?” Hannah looked between him and me. “You already moved?”

“Yeah, Mrs. Hedgings got us in yesterday. Professor Rosen came with us and made some adjustments, so we fit more comfortably.”

She slumped down. “Wow. Everything happened so fast. I thought,” she huffed out a breath. “I thought there would be more time.”

“Hey, just because I’m not down the hall doesn’t mean you can’t visit whenever you want. We’re going to be using the tunnels as much as possible to not draw attention, so you can sneak over. Plus, now I have my own room, so we don’t have to worry about any interruptions.”

“You live with four guys now,” she pointed out.

“Yes, but I have my own suite with a king bed and a massive bathroom. We can put a spell on the door and keep them out for as long as we want.”

“She even has a hot tub in hers,” Theo added.

Hannah’s brows shot up. “A hot tub? In your room?”

“Sounds like a bad honeymoon suite,” Malik teased.

Daniel chuckled. “Kinky.”

“No, it’s just a big jetted tub in the bathroom,” I argued.

“It has four seats.” Sai wagged his brows.

“Not enough for all of us,” Kaden said as he sat next to me.

“She can sit on my lap,” Theo winked.

Sai elbowed him in the ribs, and I mouthed thank you.

“Just because we’re bonded,” Kaden whispered the last word, “doesn’t mean you can talk about her like that, man.”

Theo ignored him. “She cuddled up to the iceman last night. If that’s possible, anything is.”

“Nice, Theo.” I shook my head and started to stand, but Kaden put his hand on my arm.

“Fuck off, man. If you’re going to be jealous over every little thing she does, we’re all going to be miserable.”

Daniel, Malik, and Sai started a conversation, suddenly captivated by each other. Hannah continued eating, watching the drama unfold with an unrepentant smile.

“I’m not jealous. I’m just saying if she can get comfortable with him, then really anything is possible. It’s a good thing.” Theo looked to me for support, but I narrowed my eyes.

“I’m not going to live like this. I can’t have every move or decision I make watched and analyzed by the rest of you. I’m trying to find my new normal in all of this. I need to feel comfortable in my own living space, so do what I’m practicing and keep your thoughts to yourself.”

He slouched and dropped his eyes to his empty plate.

I didn’t want to deal with this anymore. I was exhausted and classes hadn’t even started for the day.

“Have you gone over the campus map?” I asked Kaden.

He nodded. “I’m taking the same track as Sai.”

“So we have our first two classes together.” I attempted a smile, but was still too annoyed for it to be genuine.

One night of relative peace didn’t mean things would be easy for us. I should have known better.

“Do you think we can meet up after we’re done?”

I had to think through my schedule. Monday meant studying with Niall. “I can for a little while.”

“Good. There are some things we need to talk about.”

We need to talk?

My stomach immediately tightened. Those words were never what a person wanted to hear. It always came with bad news.
