“What’s wrong?” Tom asked.

“It can’t be.” He hadn’t taken his eyes off me, and I wasn’t sure what I should do. Finally, he blinked and refocused on his father. “Please tell me this isn’t true.”

The Alpha remained calm and unbothered. “My sons, this is Saige Williams, or as you probably remember her, Saige Stewart.”

“Saige?” the shocked brother repeated and looked back at me.

“How?” The one with the lightest brown hair gasped.

“Enough with the theatrics, Barret.” The woman sitting next to the Alpha chastised. She stood and came around the table to stand next to me. “Saige, I’m your grandfather’s wife, Gloria. I’d like to welcome you to our home.”

She rested her hands on my shoulders, and to my surprise, I actually felt comforted. She was the first of my family who didn’t exude hostility.

“Boys, please sit.” They listened to her and took the seats the committee members had occupied.

“I didn’t want to repeat myself, so I decided to wait until Saige was here to go over all the information I have,” the Alpha said.

“Of course, how could we expect you to inconvenience yourself by sharing the news of our nieces’ existence?” The brother who first realized who I was mocked his father.

“Enough, Rodney.” The Alpha slammed his fist on the table. “I’m telling you now.”

The brothers didn’t speak again.

“I received word of a new student at Drexel Academy. One that the Stones were taking a special interest in.” My grandfather glanced at me before turning back to his sons. “I had her records sent to me and almost couldn’t believe they hadn’t changed any more than her last name.”

“You’ve known about her for how long then? Weeks? Months?” Rodney growled.

“I had to be sure it was really her. I couldn’t believe they hadn’t done more to protect her. At first, I thought it was a cruel prank. I sent a scout to check on her, and that’s when I found about the Council’s interest—and her mates.”

“Mates?” Tom, the oldest, repeated while he scrutinized each of us. “All four of you are her mates?”

I cringed at that word. I still hadn’t gotten over my dislike of it, even now that I’d embraced my shifter side. It sounded too forced. Like we didn’t have a choice and our animal side was in control.Unfortunately, the rest of the supernatural society didn’t share my opinion so I was having to adjust to using it more often.

“We’re bonded,” Niall replied coolly.

That earned my uncles’ attention.

“How?” asked the only one that hadn’t spoken. His thick, dark hair matched his full beard. His chocolate eyes reminded me of a puppy, which was almost funny considering he was a wolf.

Would that be offensive to say?

Now was definitely not the time to ask. Why was I even thinking about this? Oh, because my world was spinning, and it was easier to fixate on something inconsequential.

The expectant stares around me recaptured my focus. Everyone was waiting for me to answer, but I had no idea. “I think it’s because of this.” I pulled my hair back and turned enough for them to see my bond mark.

Gloria gasped. “How magnificent. We haven’t seen a group of five in . . . centuries maybe.”

“And you’re all shifters?” The same uncle asked, staring down each of us.

I pointed to and named Sai and Kaden since the Alpha hadn’t bothered to make introductions.

“What kind of shifters?” the light brown-haired brother asked.

“Hawk,” Kaden replied before gesturing at Sai.

“Tiger.”

The air in the room changed. Like everyone was suddenly on alert.
