“It’s so nice to meet you both. I wish it hadn’t been under these circumstances, but I am so grateful the two of you were here to help.”

“Of course,” Kaden smiled, and I nodded.

“I’ll have someone from the clinic come by and check on him. We’ll make sure the snow gets cleared too.” Rodney headed to the front door, and we follow him outside. “Let’s shovel this quickly, and I’ll explain to Steven what happened.”

Kaden agreed, and we found snow shovels on the side of the house. It only took a few minutes to clear a path to the back of the house, then Rodney jumped on to the roof in one of the coolest moves I’ve ever seen. Another thing I was going to ask him about. He confirmed the area was clear, but we would come back to check after the next snowstorm.

“I’m impressed with you two. Neither of you hesitated in helping. You took off running and jumped in without having to be asked or directed.”

I waved off the praise. “I didn’t even think of that. Someone was in danger, and we needed to save him.”

“That’s not what everyone would do in that situation. I’m happy you were with me. You’re a great addition to our pack.” He grinned and tilted his head. “Let’s go see what my brother’s up to.”

Iran my hand over my face as I trudged up the stairs of the Alpha’s house to our room. The day had been long, but that was typical. What had me practically dragging my feet was how mentally exhausted I was. My brain was full. No more information could be accepted at this time.

All I wanted to do was sneak into my own room and hide under the blankets to decompress. That wasn’t an option anymore. None of us had private space. We were on top of each other constantly. Not only did that make it impossible to spend time with Saige alone, but it was driving me insane.

I liked the guys, truly. In that respect, I was lucky. Ending up in a bond of five was unexpected. I always thought it would be me and Sai, but I was learning to love Kaden and Niall.

That didn’t mean I wanted to spend every waking second with any of them. Having a break at work was just what I needed, but the trade-off was packing more training and instruction than ever into each day.

I stared at the door, debating if I wanted to go inside. My time-sensitive matter made the decision for me.

“Honey, I’m home,” I called as I stepped into our room.

Niall and Saige turned on the couch.

“Hey!” She jumped up and rushed toward me.

One smile, and my bad mood disappeared. I might not love our living situation, but she was safe. She was happy.

“Hi, jagiya.” I wrapped one arm around her and quickly kissed her before stepping away.

She clung to me for a few extra seconds before taking my hand to lead me to the sitting area. “How was your day?”

“Fine.” I tossed the two blood bags I smuggled out of the clinic to Niall. He caught them with quick reflexes and headed to the bathroom.

Used to our feeding habits, Saige barely acknowledged our exchange. “That’s it?”

I dropped my head back against the sofa and closed my eyes. “It was just a lot. I’ll be training for weeks, if not months, but at least they’re not making me do grunt work yet.”

“Are you learning a lot? Do you think there’s anything you can teach them?”

“There’s another vampire there, so I doubt I know anything he doesn’t, but I am learning a lot about how shifters heal and that time is of the essence with them.”

“What do you mean?”

She scooted closer, and I squeezed her hand.

“Since they heal quickly, bones need to be set properly within minutes of a fracture or break. They don’t need stitches usually, but they need butterfly bandages to minimize scarring. Things like that.”

“Oh. That’s interesting.”

She rested her head on my shoulder, and I kissed her gently.

“I’m sorry I don’t have much to say right now. I’m so tired. How was your day?”
