“She has other family?” Niall put together what I hadn’t even had time to consider.

“Yes, I have five sons and five, well . . . six, grandchildren.”

“I have uncles? And cousins?” A lot of them actually.

“Yes,” Nancy answered.

A large family that never came for me. That never even tried to find me. That left me completely alone when my parents died, and all because my mother was a witch? My momentary excitement about meeting these new relatives disappeared as quickly as it came.

Wait for the explanation before making assumptions,Niall warned.

Had I accidentally let them hear my thoughts?

Yes, we can still hear you.Theo put his hand on my knee.

It will be harder to control now that establishing the bond has heightened your emotions,Niall explained.

I let out a breath and tried to calm down. I wanted answers. Now.

“How much longer?” I asked, hoping Nancy would say we were there.

“We’re at the gate. Once we’re through, you can remove the blindfolds,” she answered.

I waited to hear the driver or the Alpha say something, maybe address a guard, but no verbal exchange happened. Maybe they could speak telepathically, too?

A light tingle spread across my face, and the blindfold fell off on its own. I blinked at the sudden brightness before gasping.

The world was white. Ice and snow covered everything in sight. The trees, the barely visible road, the ground, and the frozen river in front of us.

A thick layer of snow covered Drexel Academy, making the buildings stand out in stark contrast, but the snow didn’t reach the forest floor.

This was like being on another planet.

“Wow,” Kaden whispered.

“Why couldn’t we go somewhere tropical?” Sai whined.

I doubted a pack of wolf shifters could hide along a beach, but his tiger had to be missing anything resembling his natural habitat.

“Welcome to the main compound of the Five Lakes Pack.” My grandfather lifted his hand, gesturing to the windows. “You’re new home.”

Home? I doubted that this strange place would ever feel like home.

Where is everyone?Niall asked.

It is strangely quiet.Kaden leaned forward, looking over my shoulder out the front windshield.

“I’ve asked the pack to give us some privacy. I didn’t want to overwhelm you with a greeting party. Only my committee leaders will be present,” the Alpha explained as the SUV came to a stop in front of a large, three-story lodge with a wrap-around porch on all levels.

“This is the Alpha’s home,” Nancy explained as we climbed out and stood together in front of the grand building.

“His home?” I repeated. I thought the entire pack lived in here.

“The first floor holds the main meeting room, dining room, kitchen, a few conference rooms, and the Alpha’s office. The second floor is mainly guestrooms, and the third is the Alpha’s private quarters. It’s where his family lives.”

I felt marginally better knowing this whole place wasn’t just for one man or family. As Nancy led us up the stairs to the front door, I looked around the area and had the feeling this was the center of the compound.

Two men and two women stood inside, waiting for us. Alpha Stewart greeted them before turning to introduce us. “This is my granddaughter, Saige, and her bond mates.”
