It wasn’t his fault, or any of ours, that we were inexperienced. We had no way of knowing until now.

“There was a time when Niall was being drained because we hadn’t completed the bond. We pushed our energy together, but that was it. Other than that, we haven’t had much opportunity to push ourselves,” I explained.

“Let’s start there.” Dustin told us to stand up and move into a circle.

“Who wants to start?” Joey asked. When no one spoke up, he pointed to Theo. “Let’s try your Fire.”

He walked over to the fireplace and doused the small flames with a pot of water. “It'll be harder to start now that you have to dry out the area, but you can do that, right?”

Theo nodded. “Yeah, I've done it before.”

“Then go ahead.” Joey pointed.

Theo faced the fireplace, holding up his hands and forming a ball of fire. He pushed it forward, gently into the fireplace. He waited nearly a minute before placing on the logs, and the fire came back to life.

Dustin nodded. “Good, now let's see how you do with your bond’s power behind you.”

Joey turned his attention to the rest of us. “It might be easier to try this holding hands first to get a feel for it, but eventually, you'll be able to do this without touching.”

We took each other's hands, staying in the circle.

“Now focus on your magic. Your power. Push that through the connection like you did with your thoughts. Find the link to Theo and push your power to him.”

I closed my eyes and focused on the task until I felt my power slip out of me. I opened my eyes to see Theo straighten.

“Whoa,” he gasped. “That's intense.”

“Now try it again,” Joey directed.

Theo held out a single palm, and a flame burst out of it, shooting directly at the fireplace. In a smooth motion, the fireball landed on the wet logs with a sizzle.

Theo dropped his hand, and the fire remained. “That's amazing.”

“I’m glad you think so,” Emily smiled.

“Let’s try something else.” Joey scanned the room. “Kaden, I want you and Niall to work together to create a waterspout. Theo, I want you to make the water evaporate. Saige, be prepared to take control of the water if anything goes wrong.”

He wanted to create a natural disaster in his living room? Seemed pretty trusting of us, but I wasn’t going to argue and lose the chance to try.

“Refocus on your power, then redirect it to Niall and Kaden first.” Dustin directed.

It only took a few seconds before an orb of water appeared in the center of our circle, and it began spinning before elongating into a tornado.

“Good!” Joey called. “Now, direct some of the power into Theo.”

I closed my eyes and focused on syphoning my power to Theo.

He grinned and created blue flames surrounding their creation. Quicker than I expected, the air sizzled, and the waterspout was gone.

Niall’s wide eyes moved from Kaden to Theo. “That was awesome.”

“It’s impressive how well you are able to work together already,” Dustin stepped into our circle. “You’ll be caught up to us in no time.”

“This is just the beginning,” Emily clapped. “We will teach you more, but we have an appointment.”

“When can you return?” Joey asked.

It was a relief to know they wanted us to come back. They wanted to help, beyond feeling obligated.
