I tried to run to her, but my body gave out below me. I crashed back down to the floor.

“I've got her, Niall,” Rainer reassured me, as he picked her up from the headless man's arms and ran her back into the bedroom.

I had to make sure she was okay. I had to know that she was. That she was fine.

I used the wall to pull myself up and leaned against it to take the few steps down the hall. Rainer laid her on the bed and pulled the blankets up to cover her. She must have shifted at some point because her clothes laid in a tattered pile on the floor in the corner of the room.

“What happened?” we asked each other at the same time. He looked at me and back down at her just as Kaden ran into the room.

“Is she all right? Did they make it inside?” he panted.

“She's fine,” Rainer assured. “My father stopped the man from taking her before he even made it to the front door.”

Kaden fell back against the doorframe with a sigh.

I took a few small steps, feeling my strength returning, and picked up a pair of sweatpants and tossed them to him.

He thanked me and pulled them on before moving to Saige. “Do you know what happened?”

“I'm not sure. She hasn't woken up yet, but it looks like she's fine. I didn't see any injuries on her.” Rainer explained.

That was a relief.

“Where are Theo and Sai?”

“They're still passed out in the front room,” Kaden replied. “How are you awake? Did you get shot with the tranquilizers?”

“No, I tried to take down the guy who had the gun pointed at Sai, but I was too late. When I landed on him, someone else hit me in the back of the head. I assume with another gun.”

“We're going to take everyone to the health clinic,” Rodney said, appearing in the doorway. “We've got a van parked in the street to transfer everyone.”

“Is it safe to leave?” I asked.

He nodded, a frown tugging at his lips. “Everyone involved has been captured.”

He wouldn’t meet mine or Kaden’s eyes. I felt like we were missing something.

“What are you keeping from us?” I demanded. Normally, I trusted these guys, but right now, I trusted no one but my bond.

“They were our own.”

So we were right. It had been an inside job rather than just one or two corrupt patrol guards.

“They've been dealt with,” Rodney added. “In the meantime, it's safe for us to move.”

Rainer went to pick up Saige, but Kaden and I both stepped forward at the same time. “We've got her.”

He held up his hand, taking a step back. “Right, of course. I'm sorry.”

I went to the wardrobe and pulled out a set of pajamas, then glared at Rodney and Rainer until they left.

Kaden and I dressed her quickly, then he lifted her into his arms in a bridal carry. I opened the door, leading the way and making sure it was safe for us to bring our mate out.

The Alpha was back in his human form, rubbing a rag over his jaw. The cloth was red with blood. “Are we ready to move?”

“Yes,” Rainer said.

Sai, Theo, and the two guards were picked up and lifted over the uncles’ shoulders while I continue to stand guard in front of Kaden.
