I felt resistance in my chest before it snapped. The protection didn't hold. My spells were falling apart, and suddenly, Sai’s roars disappeared.

He was hurt, or maybe he'd been tranquilized as well. Those are the only two options I was willing to accept. Anything more was impossible to think about. He was going to be fine. We all were.

Footsteps pounded down the hall, and I prayed it was Niall coming. The board door burst open, and three large men I didn't recognize walked forward, glancing around the room.

At least my invisibility spell was still working.

“Where the hell is she?”

“That little bitch better be here.”

“They said she would be.”

“She's not just a shifter. She's a witch. Remember?”

Right, I was a witch, and I wasn’t completely defenseless. I wasn't going to stand here, hoping they couldn't see me.

I was surrounded by wood. I called on my Earth magic. I was used to working with it to heal the trees, but the pull felt the same. Familiar. It answered my call, and I focused on splitting it into sharp spears and aiming at the men.

I watched as the wood followed my orders. Long, thin pieces peeling away from the walls and turned, taking aim.

The men shrieked, shoving each other away and falling to the ground just before the spears hit any of them.

Shit!

I focused on Water and drew all of it into the room, hoping to freeze them in their place, but I was barely able to gather enough to freeze their shoes. They were able to step out of before it was solid.

“I told you the little bitch is in here.”

“Come on. Let's find her.”

They began looking around the bed, underneath, then the wardrobe. But that was all there was in the small room.

“Where the hell is she?”

“She's a witch. Maybe she can make herself invisible.”

Fuck.

I moved a couple of inches to my right as one of them came towards me. I needed to do something, but it was like my reactions were too slow. They were too quick.

Right as I thought of another attack with the wood, my wolf came alive and took over before I could prevent the shift.

I fell onto four paws and looked up in horror as all three men turned, staring directly at me.

“There you are, little bitch,” the man in the center smiled at me as they slowly stepped forward.

I snarled and snapped at him, focusing too much of my attention and not realizing that the guy on my left had moved close enough to tackle me.

“There you go,” crooned one of the other guys as the third came forward and stabbed me in the neck.

I tried to fight, but my vision went black.

Niall

Iopened my eyes just as the Alpha ran into the house, shifting instantaneously. He locked his jaw onto the man’s head and tore it clean off. Blood sprayed across the room. Before I could fully process what happened, I saw he’d been holding my mate.

“Saige!” I yelled and pushed push myself up.
