What the hell?
The alarms are no longer in the back of my brain.
They’re in the forefront, the red flags so bright and crimson they’re all I can focus on.
No one moves, and I look between the four of them, trying to figure out exactly what thefuckis going on.
“Charlotte?” I try again.
She looks stricken as she walks over to her reception desk and opens a drawer.
“I’m sorry, Harper,” she says sadly, as pills rattle in a bottle.
Sorry for what?
She places the container in my hand, and I frown at the generic label. I twist open the cap and the contents fall into my hand.
I hold my breath, staring at the medication Charlotte gave me.
And stare. And stare.
“What is this?” I ask, my voice devoid of emotion.
The room is silent, everyone watching me until Wilson trots in, his poofy high tail flicking happily. He jumps on to the reception desk and sits, his green eyes staring at me, just like everyone else.
I’m holding the same shape pills Michael gave me, albeit a different color.
For an insane moment, I think he’s here, that somehow, he gave them to Charlotte, and he’s going to drag me away—
“They’re suppressants, honey,” Charlotte says quietly.
It doesn’t compute. She might as well be speaking a different language.
“What?”
My ears ring, and my hand goes numb. The pills scatter onto the floor, rolling everywhere.
I watch as they travel along the hardwood, stopping at James’s steel-toed boots. The white cap spins further, rolling loudly until it lands somewhere near the fireplace.
“You’re an Omega, Harper.” Charlotte’s voice is somewhere far away.
I’m an Omega.

Harper’s smart.
But she’s also in denial. It’s a lovely technique. In fact, it’s one of my favorite coping mechanisms.
My brothers and I have used it a lot, and it’s a skill we’ve mastered.
So, I recognize the cloudiness in the lovely Omega’s eyes as she refuses to process reality.
“How,” she states. It isn’t a question, merely a word she spits out.
She won’t look at us.
