Chapter Eleven

––––––––

Three sheets to thewind, I’m drunk as a skunk and don’t even care.I motion for another drink.

“Don’t you think you’ve had enough?”Nicki asks, and I snarl at her, “No, nope, not even close.”I lift the glass but somehow miss my mouth and hit my cheek.Beer spills.

“Wet t-shirt party!”I scream out with my pint glass raised.

“No!”Nicki comes around the bar and grabs the glass from me.

“You’re a party pooper,” I tell her, “What happened to you?You used to be so much fun.”I sulk in my own pity.

“Keni, drinking will not change anything. If there is a problem, you need to talk about it,” she says, and I wobble my head like a bobble doll and stick out my tongue.

“Talking is overrated.Bring my drink.”I turn and stumble towards the back to find an empty booth.

“What has gotten your panties in a bunch?”she asks, sliding my drink across the table.

“Fucking Xander,” I stare at the condensation building on the side of the glass.

“Oh?”she leans back to listen.

“He kissed me.I mean, we’ve kissed – many times but never...”I sigh. It’s been amazing. The way he touches me and makes me feel so wanted. One kiss, and I melt and want more.So much more.

“I invited him to Netflix and chill.”Embarrassed, I cover my face and peer through my fingers.“That takes balls,” she says.

“Yeah, but he freaked out or something.I mean, he came over, but the heat in my apartment wasn’t working. He fixed it, and then I kissed him, and I started to rub him, and he pushed me away.FUCK him.”I feel the anger begin to build again. After hours of drinking to help release it, it came back full force.

I want to hit something, someone.Nicki waves towards the bar, “the heat’s working now?”she tries to distract me, and I nod.

“The uber will take you home, I and Diesel will drop off your car when we are done here. You need to sober up and re-think what took place and how to move forward.I see the way he looks at you. There is something between the two of you.”I shrug my shoulders, “Whatever.”

Annoyed, I push up from the table and stumble toward the door.

“Be good,” someone says.I reply by putting my middle finger up and walking out the door.

Be good, what fun is that?
