“I love you too,” she whispers softly with a smile.

“Where the hell have you been all my life?” I kiss her again, needing all of her at this moment.

ChapterEleven

“Who’s making you smile like an idiot?” Ruby laughs next to me. I reply to Daniel’s text and set my phone down.

“Uh,” I hesitate.

“OH MY GOSH! ARE YOU SEEING SOMEONE?” My other sister, Kelsey, screams.

“Careful, Kels. I don’t think they heard you in Canada.” I shoot her a death glare.

“They probably did,” Ruby snorts.

“I’m sorry, but Holly- I- Don’t - Date- Warren is dating someone! It’s a big deal. Now tell us all about him!” Kelsey exclaims.

“His name is Daniel, he’s friends of Daph and Liz’s. We’ve been seeing each other for about 2 months now,” I smile.

“Oh, my gosh!” Kelsey cheers.

“That’s amazing!” Ruby smiles. Matthew mumbles from her chest, being nursed, hidden from the sun. He didn’t get the Warren family genes of getting tan.

“Why the hell isn’t he here?” Kelsey says, looking around.

“Uh, I don’t know.” Originally, it was going to be just Ruby, the kids and I, so I hadn’t thought to invite him. Last minute, Kelsey asked to come with us, and we all crammed into Ruby’s minivan.

“Well, get him down here!” Kelsey meant well, but she could come on a little strong.

“Kelsey, she doesn’t have to invite him if she doesn’t want to.” Ruby shoots her a warning look.

“Hey, it’s not like you guys took it easy on John when you met him.” Damn, she had a point. John was Kelsey’s husband. They got married earlier this year after dating for almost 5 years. We had definitely given him a hard time when they first started dating. I hadn’t thought of the consequences of that.

“I’ll see what he’s up to,” I sigh and pick my phone back up. He wasn’t working today, which was killing me since we’d barely seen much of each other lately. I didn’t want to be that person and cancel on my family just because I’m seeing someone, though.

“Hey babe, what’s up?” He picks up on the first ring.

“Wanna come meet my sisters?” I step away from the beach blanket. Careful not to step on Lily and Heather’s sandcastles. They were in the middle of building some kind of mote around the outside.

“Uh, like right now?” He hesitates.

“You don’t have to. My sisters just asked about you.”

“As long as I’m not intruding on your family time, I’d love to come. I should be there in twenty minutes.”

“You’re not. They want to meet you. But no pressure.”

“Oh sure, no pressure. Just remember that when I invite you to meet my family.” He laughs.

“I love you,” I smile.

“I love you too. See you soon.”

My sisters are both staring at me like I have two heads when I return to my spot on the blanket.

“You’ve already said I love you?”

“Is it this serious?” They both look shocked.
