“Yeah, I think it is.” I admit.

Ever since Daniel had told me he loved me, I’ve felt at ease about us. It was hard with him working all the time and the long hours he kept, but I knew it made him happy. He was passionate about his work, and he always made time to talk and see me when he could. This week alone, he’d sent me flowers and iced coffee on the days he couldn’t see me. Each with a handwritten ‘I love you’.

Daniel meetsme at the boardwalk with a huge smile and a quick kiss. He followed my lead, holding my hand but keeping PDA to a minimum in front of my family. I didn’t want to be one of those couples.

“Daniel, these are my sisters, Ruby and Kelsey. My nephew Matthew, and my nieces Heather and Lily,” I point everyone out.

“Nice to meet you,” he makes a point of shaking my sister’s hands and waving to my nieces.

“Have a seat, Daniel. Tell us what your intentions are with our sister.” Kelsey pats the sand next to her.

“She’s joking.” I shake my head at her.

“Maybe I’m not,” Kelsey cracks open a hard lemonade and holds it out to him.

“No, thanks, I’m driving.”

“Good, you passed the first test.” She sips the lemonade instead.

“I have a feeling this might be harder than meeting your parents.” Daniel whispers to me.

“It definitely will be. My parents are a piece of cake compared to my sisters.” I laugh. Growing up with three sisters meant there definitely was never a quiet moment in our house.

“Auntie Holly! Can you swim with us?” Lily runs up to me in her unicorn bathing suit.

“Sure,” I look at Daniel, but he’s deep in a conversation with Kelsey about his job.

“Come on!” Heather grabs one hand and they both pull me toward the water. Since they were too small to go out deep, I knew I’d be safe with them. They typically stayed ankle deep, splashing each other and trying to do handstands.

“Wanna see something cool?” I ask.

“YEAH!” they both shout.

I step forward and pray I’m not about to embarrass myself in front of Daniel. I lean forward and do a handstand, wobbling for a second and standing back up. It had been a long time since I had done that.

“WOW!” They didn’t know I could do that.

“Impressive,” Daniel says, coming up behind me.

“I thought you and my sisters were getting to know each other,”

“I think it was more of Kelsey grilling me than anything, but I wanted to make sure you were okay.” He’s still wearing his t-shirt, I’m sure to be modest around my family.

“Auntie! Is this your boyfrieeeeend?” Heather teases.

“Maybeeee,” I make a face back.

“Is he any good at tag?” She looks at me and I glance at him.

“Only the best,” He says, joining in her teasing.

“I bet I could win in a race.” Heather was too much like her aunt Kelsey, small and full of sass.

“I bet I could.”

“Only one way to handle this guys. Race right here, right now.”

“You’re on!” Heather glares at Daniel and I can’t help but laugh because Daniel actually looks a little afraid of this seven-year-old.
