Molly smiles when I walk in an hour later, just five minutes late. I’m sure she is getting worried with my recent track record, but I take my coffee from her and head into my office. My meeting isn’t until lunch so until then, maybe I can hide out in my office and cry. My feelings are all over the place today, the tears not stopping no matter what I do. It is like an endless supply of tears I didn’t know I had.

“Luna?” My chair spins around and all the sadness turns to anger.

“Get out of here,” I spit.

“Come on, I just wanted to talk.” He sighs. As if I could feel bad for him.

“You never should’ve come back. I don’t want you here, Parker.”

“You don’t mean that.” His voice cracks.

“Yes, I do. We had something once, but you threw it all away.” I’m no longer angry with him, just exhausted.

“Luna,” he starts, but I cut him off.

“Why did you even come back? For some long, overdue apology I’ve yet to hear? You left me standing in that airport like anidiot. But now you’re the idiot if you think I’d ever take you back.” I don’t wait for him to say anything. Despite it being my office, I walk out with my head held high. It’s the first time all day I don’t feel like crap, but it doesn’t last long. As soon as I’m alone again, the tears find their way back.

“Luna?” Molly pushes the door open a crack. Her soft voice barely carrying in the dark room.

“I’m sorry.” I wipe my eyes and force a smile.

“I just wanted you to know Parker is gone.” She gives me a half smile. I’m sure she’s not sure how to handle me lately.

“Thank you.” I nod. Wiping my eyes once more, I walk with my head held high back to my office. I hate being this woman. I don’t want the office hearing about my boy drama and it taking away from my ability to do my job.

“Give me the Winters report, I want to go over it again, please,” I tell Molly, she grabs the file off her desk and I close the door behind me.

Checking everything over again will give me the reminder that I can do this. All my notes are flagged with post-its but I know the information. This case is something I know like the back of my hand, and I know I’ll impress the bosses today when we talk strategy. I can do it without Parker even, there is no reason they need two top tier lawyers on this case. Maybe that will be something I add to my notes, a strong, all woman defense will surely show the jury how appeasable Haven is being. We wouldn’t want anyone thinking she is flirting with or anything was going on between her and Parker. Not that anything is, but Parker has this flirty charm about him. It’s what makes him a good lawyer, but maybe not for this case.

“Um, sorry to bother you but your boyfriend is here?” Molly says it like a question and my stomach drops. Is she confused or did he say he wasn’t? What is he doing here? He never visits me at work.

“Cody?” I step out of my office and his face is solemn. By the bags under his eyes I can tell he slept about as much as I did last night.

“I need to talk to you,” he says quietly. Is he about to break up with me at work?

“Okay, come in.” I motion to my office.

“The meetings about to start,” Molly whispers.

“Stall them, please,” I whisper back. I don’t know how long this would take, but I can’t exactly leave him in here alone while I go to the meeting. Not after what I did.

Molly takes off down the hall and I turn around looking at Cody. His shaggy hair is pulled back, his beard grown out, and his smile is gone. It is like he is looking right through me. Instead of crying, I try to pull myself together like he is a client of mine.

“What’s going on?” I finally ask.

“I’m sorry I didn’t come back last night. I just needed to think and I couldn’t do that with you,” he explains.

“Okay.” I nod.

“But that really hurt, my ex cheated on me. More than once, and it almost cost Sawyer and I our friendship because she found out before I did and didn’t tell me. I need you to always be honest with me.”

“I know, and I’m so sorry it took me so long to say anything.”

“Okay--”

“Luna, I’m sorry but they need you.” Molly peeks her head in with wide eyes.

“Can they wait another minute?” I ask hopefully.
