“Luna! I think she wants you!” Riley calls. I hug my dad and excuse myself to scoop up my crying baby.

“She was happy but then she got cake on her nose instead of in her mouth.” Riley explains.

“She’s temperamental,” I laugh. “Come here love,” I pick Annabelle up but Cody snatches her from me before I can protest.

“He hasn’t held her in ten minutes, he’s going crazy.” I tease.

“Oh like I haven’t seen you sneak in at night to hold her while she sleeps.” Cody raises an eyebrow but I can’t protest, I know he’s right.

“That’s just love, right babe?” He kisses my forehead and I smile. Never had I been a fan of public displays of affection, but now I couldn’t get enough. It was like all that time of thinking I would never get to experience it again, made me need it.

Riley snaps some photos of the three of us but Annabelle starts to get fussy so I excuse myself to feed her. I wasn’t hiding that I breastfed her, but sometimes I used it to give myself a little break. Motherhood was exhausting and although today was fun, it was also a little overwhelming. So a few minutes of ‘Annabelle time’ as Cody liked to call it, was just what we needed. I clean the cake off her, changing her clothes and into a cozy set of pajamas. She eats and I look at her little head, she holds on to my finger and I smile. I let out a soft sigh, the door peeks open and I see Cody standing in the doorway.

“I brought you something to drink,” he hands me a glass of ice water and I smile. He took his job as a father very seriously but he also took care of me. On days when things were too much, he took Annabelle for a walk or if I needed comfort, he was there to hold my hand. Since the day I had Annabelle, I never felt alone again. I knew he was truing to make up for lost time, but I think it was also just the way he showed his love.

“Thank you.” Annabelle starts to doze off so I burp her gently and hold her for a few moments. Cody and I both kiss her head and put her in her crib.

“I love you,” He whispers. Holding me as we both look down at her, I can feel the love radiating off of us.

“I love you more.”

“Thank you for letting me in.” Cody kisses me slowly.

“Thank you for giving me a million reasons to let you.” I whisper.
