“Mitchell.” I say firmly. “That way she has a piece of both of us.”

“Thank you,” he looks at her with admiration. “Annabelle Mitchell.”

“It’s perfect, just like her.” I smile and look at him.

“I know I missed so much of your pregnancy, but I promise I won’t be missing any more moments in her life. Or in yours, if that’s what you want.” He adds.

“I do,” I nod. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones or maybe I lived too long without the man I loved. But I couldn’t let him go ever again. “I love you.” I whisper.

“I love you too.” He whispers against my lips.

“Let me grab a photo of the happy family!” A nurse says as she grabs my phone off the table. Snapping a photo of us, I smile. We truly were, ahappyfamily.

Epilogue

Six Months later…

“Smile baby!” I will my six month old to look at me but her eyes are on the little cake I placed in front of her. To be honest, I can’t blame her. I’d much rather be eating cake than smiling at anyone so she’s definitely mine.

“Smile for daddy!” Cody says and Annabelle gives him a huge gummy smile. Her two little teeth showing up.

“Are you freaking kidding me?” I glare at him. I’d been trying for twenty minutes and yet he comes out of nowhere to ask once and she smiles.

“What can I say? She’s a daddy’s girl.” He teases and I roll my eyes.

“Annabelle! Look at mama!” I smile and try to say in a silly voice but she looks at me like I’m crazy and I give up.

“Let me try,” Riley steps up and grabs the camera from me. “Godmother of the year is here.”

“Oh gosh, maybe someone needs to talk about how often we use that.” Sawyer teases. Cody had asked Sawyer to be Annabelle’s other Godmother. Neither of us were religious but we knew if something happened to us, we’d want her going to them. It was the only thing that made sense.

We didn’t want to make it a big thing, but we decided six months was a good milestone to celebrate Annabelle. It wasn’t exactly a birthday party, but more of a get together. Riley and Sawyer were here along with my dad and Molly. All of us crowding Annabelle as she goes for the cake with the little six made of sprinkles on top. She grabs that first then ends up with a handful of cake and licks her chubby hand clean. Riley snaps away but I’m looking at my beautiful girl in her pink dress, enjoying every bite of cake.

“She’s getting so big.” My dad says over my shoulder.

“She is.” I nod, frowning. It was like each day she was getting bigger and bigger.

“I still see you at that size.”

“Dad,” I groan.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be saying that to her soon enough.” He laughs.

“I’m glad you could make it, you’ve been traveling quite a bit recently.”

“Well, there’s something you should know about that actually.” He scratches his chin and looks away anxiously.

“Yes?” I never had to drag something out of him like this. Then again that was where I got my lack of abilities when it came to talking about feelings.

“I’m seeing someone,” He mumbles.

“Dad! That’s great! You should’ve brought her.”

“Really?” He goes from terrified to shocked.

“Yes, it’s been a long time. You deserve to be happy.”

“I’m glad you’re finally letting yourself be happy too.”
