Finally, I ask, “So you broke down and went home, huh?” His smile faltered. “Actually, my father called me and, at the time, we weren’t talking, so I answered just to have someone to yell at.” He chuckles, placing his elbows on his knees. I slide my arm through his giving him my undivided attention. “It turns out they were going to sell the house, and he wanted to know if I would have any interest.”

I gasp, “Jacob, I love that house. Why are they selling it?” He turns and places his bottle of water on the asphalt.

“Turns out they’d rather live in the south, which is fine with me. The further away, the better. I’ve been staying there and cleaning out all the old stuff.”

*.*.*

I take his hand in mine, “so you’ll come back and stay with me?” He pushes my hair behind my ear, “I was kinda hoping you’d come live with me. I bought it.”

I gasp, “Jacob, are you sure?” He nods, “Yes. I gave it a lot of thought, and even though childhood wasn’t the greatest in that house, it wasn’t all bad. I mean, it’s where I met you.” I lean in and kiss his cheek.

“Besides, we can fill it with a couple of kids and make a real home of it with you. Maybe even start those traditional Barbecues like my grandparents used to have. So, what do you think?”

“Jacob, nothing would make me happier.” I place my arms around his neck and kiss the man I love. The boy from next door, my best friend, my soulmate.

The End…
