The relief I felt when I saw him standing in my bedroom was incredible. I needed my best friend.
That’s what I was thinking about. Friendship.
But as the window closes behind him, I feel like I could melt into a puddle from that one stupid wink.
Why does he have to be so damn sexy?
I shake my head, trying to shake the naughty thoughts I’m having about him out.
I let out a long breath and pick up my phone. Time to let Joel and Miles know.
Me: Hey, so just to give you guys a heads up… I told my parents tonight about what happened. I’m sure it will come up with all the parents soon enough. Just wanted to let you know.
I put my phone down and change into my pajamas, but I hear it vibrate multiple times while I’m getting changed.
I settle in bed and look at my texts.
Mackie: Sarah texted me. I’m so damn proud of you! Also, I told my mom. She’s angry for you and says to remind you how strong you are. And you freaking are. Love you.
Me: Thanks, Macks. Love you too!
I flip over to my conversation with Miles and Joel.
Joelskies: Holy shit… are you okay?
Miles: Jesus. Seriously, are you okay Rae?
Me: Love you both. I’m okay. Sarah was with me when I told them. Aaron let me cry all over him afterward.
Joelskies: Of course, he did. I’ll let my parents know. Want me to come over?
Me: No, I’m okay for now. Just want to relax. I didn’t realize how badly keeping this a secret was weighing me down. It’s nice to breathe again.
Miles: I’m so fucking glad you told them. Let me know if you need anything. You deserve to be free of that weight.
Me: Guys, I’ve cried enough tonight. Please don’t make me cry more.
Joelskies: LOL. But also, I teared up when I got your message. I LOVE YOU!
Me: I love you too!
Miles: Buncha whiny babies. ;) Love you both. Get some rest, kid.
Me: Night.
I slide down into my bed and turn my TV on. Conveniently, there’s a Gilmore Girls marathon playing. I’m about to set my phone to the side for the night when it vibrates again.
Ace: I’m so glad you told them. I feel like I can breathe better now. I’ve been so worried about you. I hate seeing you hurt, especially when I can’t fix it. I told my parents, and they wanted me to tell you they love and support you.
Me: Ace, you’re the best. I wouldn’t have gotten through this without you. And your parents are sweet.
I expect another text, but instead, he calls me.
“Hey,” I answer.
“Hi.”
“Why’d you call?”
