Then again, that was a good dream.

I quickly get dressed, then check my phone and see several messages from Rae over the last couple of hours.

Beautiful: SNOW!!! It’s so pretty.

Beautiful: You know what that means… snow day shenanigans. Text me when you’re up!

Beautiful: Are you awake yet? Come hang out with me.

Beautiful: [picture message]

I laugh at the picture of her sexy, grumpy little pout.I want to pull those lips between my teeth and…

Shaking my head, I look at the last texts from a few minutes ago.

Beautiful: Seriously, WAKE UP! Miles is kicking my ass at Bullshit and you aren’t here to help me cheat. Plus, I miss you. So, ya know.

Beautiful: And it’s almost sledding time!

I smile at all her texts, my body warming uncontrollably. I’m not sure I can hold back much longer. Attempting to shake it off, I pack my snow gear and head over to her house. When I get to the back door, Joel is walking up as well. We nod at each other, but don’t say anything, instead walking in the back door and taking our coats and boots off.

The sound of laughter emanates from the family room, which is right off the back entryway.

“I can’t believe you’ve been playing cards without us,” Joel says.

“You were hanging with Jared,” Rae answers as I raise my eyebrows. “How’d that go, anyway?”

Joel rolls his eyes and sighs. “You know him, always the competitive, pain-in-the-ass older brother. I gave up.”

I plop down next to Rae. “What about me?”

“Excuse me, I sent you multiple texts.”

“Well, I was asleep, and that didn’t wake me up. Usually you call me or come and get me.” I give her my best puppy dog eyes and a pout that rivals the one she sent me earlier.

“Well, you’re here now.” She cozies in against me and pokes my lip. “So, put that away.”

Glancing around the room at everyone else talking, I lean in and whisper, “Actually, I wanted to talk to you.Alone.”

Her eyes go wide and she chokes on a breath before sputtering. “Uh, yeah, okay. Come here.”

She takes my hand and leads me into the kitchen.

Staring at her intently, I interlace her fingers with mine, gently brushing my fingertips against her knuckles.

“Aaron…”

I swallow hard and open my mouth to speak.

What am I doing?I had a plan. A couple of weeks after our conversation in Rae’s bedroom, I found an incredible gift for her. With a little customization, it shows off our relationship perfectly. I was going to give it to her when we looked at stars on her birthday, then make a wish and ask her to be my girlfriend.

It’s the perfect plan, and there’s only three more weeks until her birthday. But my feelings for her have been growing relentlessly. And I think hers have for me, too. The way she licks her lips and stares at me intensely when we’re talking or sitting together, and the way she blatantly checks me out when she thinks I’m not looking… we’re rapidly moving past blurring lines and barrelling toward crossing them.

The first couple of weeks, it was easy. We were back to us. But as usual, that undeniable connection is drawing us closer and closer. And after the dream I had last night? I don’t think I can wait another day. It’s exploding out of me how badly I want her—need her. I’m ready for this. I’m ready for us.

“Rae, we’ve been—”

“Hey, guys. Come on!” Sarah yells. “Mackie’s here. Time to go.”
