I glance over at Sarah, who is beaming happily.

Mind in the present, Rae. Let’s go.

“Are you gonna tell us what you have?” I ask.

She opens a bubble envelope and pulls out what looks like a stack of cards.

“They had them sent in an envelope here because it was cheaper for shipping, but she wanted to send each of us one,” Sarah says, splaying wedding invitations over the counter.

“Greg and Jenny’s?” I squeal.

She nods and we all grab for one.

Greg and Jenny have been friends of ours since we were kids. They were friends and totally into each other for years, even if they denied it. They started dating just before the beginning of senior year, and well… they got their happily ever after pretty much immediately. I’m glad for them, even if I’m a little jealous. They surprised us all when they got engaged in October. They weren’t sure exactly when they’d get married, but they sent out save the date cards back in January. Looks like it’s officially official now.

“Getting married at nineteen. What do you guys think? Crazy or sweet?” Mackie asks.

“Can it be both?” Sarah asks with a smile.

Miles shrugs one shoulder. “Sometimes you just know.”

I nod in agreement. “Both my parents and my grandparents got married at nineteen. When it’s right, it works.” I hazard a glance at Aaron, whose eyes are locked on me.

Thankfully, before he can say anything, Joel says, “Wait, did you seewherethey’re getting married?”

We all look more carefully at our invitations, then between each other.

Charleston.

Aaron’s eyes find mine again. Charleston has always been a special place for us. Walks on the beach, watching the sunrise, snuggling around the campfire, playing truth or dare, friendly kisses.

“August fourteenth. That’s four months away.” Joel smiles. “Let me make a call.”

He steps out of the room with his phone to his ear and everyone peruses the invitations. My phone vibrates, so I pull it out and lean against the back of the couch as I read a text.

Jesse: Are you ready to watch me kick the boys’ asses on Friday night?

Me: So ready. Obviously, someone needs to put them in their place. ;)

Jesse: Always feeding my ego.

Me: The real question is whether you’re ready for them. Your brother is playing like a champ and Aaron coaching is…

I try to think of the right words to describe how intense he is as a coach when Jesse texts back.

Jesse: Making you hot and bothered? Getting your juices flowing (if you know what I mean)?

I stifle a laugh. He’s not wrong. Even if that’s not where I was going with it.

Me: Gross. No. Not everything is about sex, you perv. I was going to tell you what a totally intense badass coach he is and how he’ll see your bullshit coming a mile away.

Jesse: And…

This time I can’t hold in my laughter.

Me: You’re not wrong about the other stuff.

Jesse: Horndog. I knew it!
