Ugh.

This is why I’ve been avoiding being alone with him over the last month. It’s too much. Since our anniversary, I’ve been trying to focus on myself and have fun. That’s hard to do when Aaron keeps showing up at my window looking like a sex-god who exudes manly, protective, charming vibes.

Gah! This is not fair.

My eyes float over his stupidly gorgeous face.

Hanging out with—no, existing near—your insanely hot ex who you still love is not fun.Not fun at all. Zero out of ten, do not recommend.

“Hi,” I say, forcing myself to be casual and detached. Can you be casual and detached by force? “So, uh, what’s up?”

He shrugs. “Haven’t seen you much lately. Just wanted to see what you’re up to today.”

“Oh, uh, nothing. I was gonna enjoy the day of peace and probably lounge in the sun.”

He smiles softly. “That sounds nice.”

I’m sure me being mostly naked and covered in oil in the hot sun does sound nice to him.

What is wrong with me?

I’m perpetually horny. I need to get laid.Or bust out the vibrator.

My eyes go back to Aaron.

Friends. Friends. Stupid fucking exes. Friends. Fuck.

“What are you up to today?”

“Actually, Joel, Miles, Jamie, and I are going out to the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

My eyes light up. “Any chance you’re gonna stop at that awesome restaurant? The sandwich place?”

“Undercover Eggplant Company? Why, yes, we are. And yes, we’ll bring back sandwiches for all of you. Just text one of us what you want later, okay?”

I smile genuinely for the first time. “Thanks.”

“Of course. I’ll talk to you later. Have fun basking in the sun and solitude.”

“I will. You have fun nerding out over baseball.”

He smirks at me and slides the window open. A wave of heat hits us and we both groan.

“At least I’ll be where it’s heavily air-conditioned,” he says with a laugh.

I give his shoulder a shove. “Get out of here. Have fun with the boys.”

“Will do. I’ll bring you your sandwich later.”

“Sounds good. See ya.”

He nods at me and gives me a crooked smile as he climbs out the window.

I flop backward on my bed when the window closes.

I wonder if it’s possible to detox from Aaron.
