“And they’re still madly in love,” Sarah adds.

She nods. “Aaron’s off limits. The other two?”

“If you’re in for a one-time hook-up, there’s Miles. Tall, swoopy dark hair. Joel is more of a short-term girlfriend kinda guy, but I doubt he’s your type. Don’t worry, we’ve got more hot guys where they come from, too. Well, if you don’t mind going back to Ida,” Sarah says.

Amanda’s eyes go wide. “You’re from Ida? No way! I’m from Woods Junction!”

Woods Junction is a couple of towns over from Ida. I remember one of Davey’s cousins lives there. It’s only about twenty minutes from home.

The four of us look between ourselves. “I think it’s fate,” Amanda whispers.

“As long as you don’t mind our brand of crazy and trying to jump into a group of six best friends with a steep learning curve.” Mackie smirks at her.

Amanda smiles softly. “I’m outgoing, and I love being around people, but I had a hard time connecting with people in high school and was kind of a loner besides my best friend, Jace. She’s two years older and has a complicated past with my brother, so I don’t get to see her as much as I like. I’ve always wanted a big group of friends. Maybe I can co-opt yours.”

I shrug. “I can’t lie. It usually works out pretty well for us when we add a new friend. Been a while, but I think you might be a good fit.” I wink at her and she winks back at me. And it’s official, she’s one of us.

We spend the next hour curled up on the couch, telling Amanda all about the six of us. The door opens with a bang and we all turn to look as Joel, Miles, Aaron, and Trevor strut in.

Miles stops and points at Amanda. “Find a winner?”

We all nod.

“Definitely,” Sarah says.

“Nice, I’m—”

Amanda jumps up, waving her hands. “No. Wait. Let me guess.” She takes half a glance at Miles. “You’re Miles.”

He gives her his flirtiest smile and holds out his hand. “Nice to meet you…”

“Amanda.” She smiles back as she shakes his hand.

Next, her eyes roll over Joel, Aaron, and Trevor. She moves between the three of them. “There’s an extra.”

“Consider it a challenge,” Mackie says.

Aaron’s eyes shift to me for a moment and Amanda laughs. “Okay, that’s Aaron.” She glances back at me. “Clearly.”

I laugh a little, and Aaron walks over and sits down next to me. My body tightens. Not because I don’t want him there, but because he smells good. And I can feel his warmth. And every freaking part of me wants to attack him right now. His fingers brush mine, and I have to stop myself from launching off the couch and sitting across the room from him. I find myself thinking the same thing I’ve thought a million times in the last couple of weeks. How am I supposed to be friends with him when I want him all the time?

I think it might’ve been easier when I was constantly mad at him.

I take a deep breath and look back at Amanda, who is looking between Joel and Trevor.

Joel smiles a flirty smile, and she nods at him. “Joel.”

“Nice.” He says before hopping over the side of the couch and flopping on top of Mackie and Sarah. They groan and attempt to shove him off.

Amanda twirls her finger at Trevor. “You didn’t mention this one.”

Trevor holds his hand to his chest like he’s been wounded. “I’m hurt.”

“Well, you didn’t tell us you were coming. Speaking of, what are you doing here, Trev? Thought you’d be headed home,” I say.

He grins widely. “Ah, right. Well, I’m actually here delivering a special present.”

He whistles, and the door swings open again. Hyla strides into the room.
