Cocky boys make great best friends. They are not the type I ever want to date, though.

“More like I’m so cranky about the fact that I’m probably going to fail statistics that I was pouting without even thinking about it.”

I don’t think even Aaron tapping my lip and telling me to “put that away” would make it better. I’m stressed.

“Maybe you should get a tutor,” Kevin says.

I blink at him.

I’m dumber than I thought. It’s not like we have an entire tutoring center on campus or anything. I mean, there has to be someone there who knows what they’re doing.

“Lucky for you, I know a guy.” He gives me a blazing smile.

“Who?” I practically shriek, more desperate than I wanted to sound.

He laughs. “Wow. You really are off. Normally you’d have seen that coming a mile away.Me, Rae. I can tutor you.”

“In statistics?” I sass. Because he better not be joking around saying he’ll tutor me in sex or something equally as cringey.

“Yes, in statistics. God, you’re freaking me out now. How bad is it?”

I groan again. “I got two out of ten practice questions right. We have a test at the end of next week, and I amdefinitelygoing to fail. And we only have that and a final. If I fail one, I’ll probably fail the class.”

He picks my book up from the floor. “Okay then, we’ve got work to do. But I promise, I’ve tutored statistics since high school. I can help.”

I soften completely and give him a halfhearted smile. “Thank you.”

Just then, a blast of cold and the sound of boisterous voices flows through the front doors.

“Come on.” Kevin stands and nods down the hall. “Let’s go to my room, where it’s quiet.”

I raise my eyebrows slightly, but follow him anyway, knowing I’d probably follow him to the ends of the earth if it meant a passing grade in statistics.

As we walk, he elbows me, smirks, and quietly says, “I’m not gonna make a pass at you, relax.”

I squint at him and give his shoulder a little push. Then I smile and say, “You better not.”

And okay, maybe I’m flirting a bit, but I’ve always loved flirting. It’s not going to go further and even if it does… I’m single. I should at least have a little fun before this class rips the will to live right out of me.

Aaron

I watch Rae walk down the hall looking way too friendly with Kevin and immediately want to punch his face off.

A hard smack to the shoulder causes me to turn angrily and look at Miles.

“Whoa, what’s up your ass?”

“Nothing,” I answer quickly.

He, Joel, and Tommy all look down the hallway to see Rae following Kevin into his room.

“Oh.” Miles’s voice is low as his eyebrows shoot up.

“Probably nothing. Aren’t they friends?” Tommy asks.

I shrug. “I guess.”

Joel looks at me. “I doubt it’s anything—given how things went last time,” he says pointedly, telling medon’t be an asshole.“But either way, you don’t get to have a say in that.”
