Gorgeous heart.

His.

He smiled, packed up his shit, and then he headed out to the job site.

* * *

Hours later, he’d had a glimpse of the hard shit that came with Teresa’s job.

And frankly, he was exhausted.

Definitely exhausted, but also…fulfilled in a way that he never would have expected.

He liked what she was doing.

The challenge. The puzzle. The people.

Working with Rafe.

He wondered…if by helping Teresa out the last few weeks, if he’d stumbled onto something he wanted to do.

He’d talked to Rafe about it—if he thought that Jeremy might be a good fit when Teresa eventually left, and Rafe had been on board.

With how busy Teresa had been, that time might come sooner rather than later.

But he wanted to talk to her first, to get her thoughts.

He didn’t want to step on something she wasn’t comfortable with, to cross a boundary that would make her uncomfortable. Work was less important than her, than their relationship.

But…

He was excited.

He felt like there was a whole new realm of possibilities in front of him.

He wanted her to be excited for him.

He hoped she would be.

He hoped she wouldn’t think that he was trying to take her spot or push her out or—

“Jesus, man,” he muttered, tossing back the blankets, and getting out of bed.

He just needed to breathe and focus andtalkto her.

That was the way they handled their shit. Not with fear and worrying and getting himself into a tizzy.

So, he grabbed a beer, parked himself in front of the TV, and waited for her to come home.

And waited.

And waited some more.

Finally, when it was definitely way too late for mani-pedis and dinner and maybe post-dinner drinks with her mom, he called her.

It went straight to voicemail.

Had her battery died?
