His fingers brushed along her spine. “Because our kiss got under your skin?”
It was the cocky way he said it.
The utter confidence in his tone.
Like he knewexactlywhere her thoughts had been going, as though he were going to turn on the charm and she was going to fall into his lap.
As though the two of them were going to happen.
A forgone conclusion.
Whether she liked it or not.
Those fingers brushed over her skin again.
Touching her when she’d told him not to.
Her temper frayed.
His fingers brushed again. A third time of ignoring her. A third time ignoring her requests.
She clenched her teeth together, tried to hold tight to the slender thread of calm that remained in her psyche.
A soft laugh, right into the shell of her ear—damp, warm puffs of air against her skin. “It did. Didn’t it? Just like me touching you right now…” His thumb dipped lower, tracing the upper curve of her ass. “You like it. Youwantit.”

He hadn’t even seen her hand move.
One moment he was sitting next to her, feeling the soft skin beneath his fingertips, smelling her shampoo, smellingher—something tropical and fruity, the same way she always smelled.
And the next, he was sputtering.
Wine dripping down his face.
Teresa’s chair scraped as she pushed back from the table, then she strode from the room.
And he…well,hell. He’d never had wine thrown in his face. It was a chilled white variety that tasted pretty good when it seeped into his mouth. But it burned like hell where it dripped into his eyes.
It was unpleasant.
A throat cleared.
And he remembered he was at the table, at a table with a bunch of rich people.
Who were now staring at him.
Because someone had just thrown wine in his face.
Embarrassment flooded through him.
That throat cleared again, and he managed to sop up some of the wine on his face. As he glanced up, eyes still stinging, he saw the older woman that Teresa had been talking to so intently earlier was staring at him.
Then she raised her brows.
