“You’re looking particularly grumpy,” Wyatt said.

Jer slanted his gaze from his TV to his twin.

Hewasfeeling exceptionally grumpy.

But he wasn’t going to comment on it.

“Which means youarefeeling particularly grumpy.”

A grunt was his only response.

One, because his day had been shit, after a shitty weekend, after a shitty Friday night—all of which he’d spent beating himself up for being a pushy asshole at every opportunity.

Two, becausethisday, in particular, had been extra shitty.

Bianca had shown up to work early, matching his start, and had refused to leave his office, doing it so intently that he’d escalated from trying to give her a gentle cue to make phone calls and ignoring her to straight up asking her to leave, none of which had worked. Even when he’d asked, she refused to go and he’d seriously been considering grabbing his shit and getting the fuck out, when his admin, Shannon, had shown up.

Shannon had cottoned on to what was happening immediately, and the two of them had been successful in getting Bianca to leave.

But the interaction meant that he’d spent the better part of his morning making a report to HR and not doing any of his work and having to cram his meetings into the remaining part of the day.

He knew they’d pulled Bianca in after him, along with Shannon later that afternoon.

Hopefully, between his complaint and Shannon’s support, that would be enough, and Bianca would get a clue.

But seriously, there was one woman in his life who he was in love with, and she didn’t want him, wouldn’t give him the time of day. Ever. Theeverpart being made quite clear and in a way that couldn’t—and wouldn’t—be ignored. And there was another woman who, maybe wasn’t in love with him but had an unhealthy fixation, and allhewanted her to do was leave him alone.

The juxtaposition told him that fate had a fucked-up sense of humor.

The similarities reminded him why he’d walked away in the restaurant, and why he wouldn’t push.

He didn’t want Teresa to feel this way.

Uncomfortable. Cornered. Frustrated. Prevented from doing what she wanted to do.

So, he’d keep his distance.

He’d move on.

Just not with Bianca.

So yeah, he was grumpy.

Because his shit weekend had been punctuated by a shit Monday.

He wanted an out-of-the-office job. He wanted to be doing something that he actually liked. But he also didn’t really know what he wanted to do. His focus had always been on doing something that paid well.

His job ticked those boxes.

But he didn’t like it.

Not in the least.

So, double yeah, he was feeling really fucking grumpy.

And his twin pointing it out only added to it.

“I can go,” Tiffany, Wyatt’s girlfriend, said. “Let you guys talk it out.”
