Too much—

A breath.Orshe could make this not a big deal and just let the man carry the bags in because he’d offered and theywereheavy and she was still carrying half of them.

He hadn’t commented after he’d slid the bags off her wrist and gripped them, just moved past her and into the kitchen, holding the plastic handles in big, strong hands.

Big, strong hands that had probably been on Melody’s body.

Which…was a thought that shouldn’t have even entered the atmosphere around her mind, no matter that Mel was nice and good for Jeremy. Plus, she was a twin, andhertwin was dating Jeremy’s twin brother, Wyatt. They had that twin with twin thing that always ended up on the cover ofPeoplewith an adorable photo showcasing the foursome and—

Losing it.

Teresa waslosing it.

She shook her head, forced her feet into motion, and carried her half of the bags into the kitchen.

“Teresa!” Mrs. Hutchins cried, coming over to her, and pressing a kiss to her cheek. Her hands were covered in some sort of food—maybe cookie dough—and oh, please God, let it be cookie dough.

“Mrs. H!” she cried back, turning her head so she could press her own kiss to the Hutchinses’ mom’s cheek.

“Edy, honey,” she corrected gently—as she always did.

“Right, Mrs. H.”

An indulgent smile, a small shake of her head, but then her eyes went to Teresa’s arm, full of bags, and to the side. Teresa turned, saw that Jeremy was setting down his load.

“What have you done?” she asked quietly.

Teresa smiled. “Mom was busy baking today. She dropped by a few things. Don’t worry,” she stage-whispered. “It’s not all for you. She packed up plenty for the boys and Cora and Rafe. And I think for Tiffany and Mel, too.”

Her mom might have made her entire life about creating a home, taking care of her husband, her kids, but she was also thoughtful.

No one would be left out on her watch.

And definitely, no one’s belly woulddareto leave her presence without being full to bursting.

“That’s so sweet,” Mrs. H said. “I’ll have to have them over for dinner as a thank you.”

“My mom would like that.” She leaned a little closer and touched the bag at her elbow. “I also have those books that we talked about.” A wink. “I’ll put them in your bedroom.”

Excitement in Mrs. H’s eyes. “Oh, from the series we talked about last weekend?”

Teresa nodded. “Yup.”

A wide smile. “I know what I’m doing tonight.”

“Bath, early bedtime, and staying up into the wee hours reading?”

“Yup!” Another kiss to Teresa’s cheek. “I’m gonna finish these up.” Her lips curved. “Glad I made your favorite.”

Pumpkin chocolate chip.

Booyah, motherfucker!

She did a little fist bump, deposited the rest of her mom’s spoils next to the bags Jeremy had left on the counter then dropped the books in Mrs. H’s bedroom.

When she came back, the bags were where she’d left them—and yeah, maybe that was a little weird. Normally Jeremy would have unpacked everything, stacked the containers, folded and stored the bags, but he’d brought the bags in and left them, and was…sitting at the old, scarred table shoved into one corner of the kitchen.

By Melody.
