Those were going to be her friends.

Jeremy wasn’t the only one who could be detail-oriented.

That was her superpower.

A tug of her ponytail. “What has put that fierce look on your face, honey?”

“I’m going to figure out every single thing that you like, and I’m going to give it to you.”

Was that spoken as fiercely as what her expression probably looked like? Maaaybe. But was it worth it because of whathisface looked like when he heard her words?

Definitely.

“Baby,” he whispered.

“Eat your food,” she ordered, emotions in her belly, filling her. No numbness. No fear.

Just…Jeremy.

“All right,” she said once they’d finished their first helping. “Time to get down to business.”

He set his fork down, took a swig of beer, and then leaned back in his chair.

“All right then,” he told her. “Lay it on me.”

“First.” She set a list she’d compiled in front of him. “Tell me if you’ve done any of these and liked or disliked them.”

He took the list, studied it for long moments.

Then looked up at her, pointed to a few. “These three. Hated the first. Meh about the second and third.”

“Any interest in the rest?”

More studying, then, “No, baby. Not really.”

“Okay then,” she said, clapping her hands together and getting down to business. “Then there’s nothing to be done about it.”

His brows drew together. “Um, about what?”

She clicked her pen, grinned up at him. “It’s quiz time, baby.”

“Would you rather be a wildlife expert or a public relations expert?”

“How are those the choices?”

She shrugged. “Are you arguing with the Princeton Review?”

“I’m arguing with something that is patently stupid.”

“You must choose,” she demanded, channeling her inner GandalfYou shall not pass!
