He almost laughed.

Clearly, not many people turned down a position there.

Too bad he was far from excited about it.

“Thanks, Cheryl,” he said, and they talked for another minute or two as she went over a few final details—when to expect the delivery, confirming his address, when the next orientation was.

Then they’d hung up.

He shook his head, tossed his cell on his nightstand.

Sighed.

Thought about what he’d felt during the interview.

Reallythought.

Was his ambivalence from the unhappiness of his old position or was it because he really didn’t want to work there?

Could he affordnotto take the offer?

That was the only question he could answer with absolute certainty.

He had savings.

He had time to get his head straight.

Had time to think about the offer, about the job, about the future—

Maybe it wouldn’t be at Robotech. Maybe it would.

He snagged the remote again, found the crappiest morning TV he could put on, and fell right into it.

The only thing he knew for certain?

Today wouldn’t be the day he made that decision.

Oh, and he wasn’t going to end up as a children’s party entertainer.

His fingers weren’t made for crafting balloon animals.

The courier had delivered the packet, and though he’d signed for it, Jeremy had left it unopened on the counter while searching for sustenance.

His fridge…

Was bordering on the edge of pathetic, but therewasleftover Chinese, and anyway, he was going to Wyatt’s house that night for Game Night. There would be plenty of food, Tiffany would make sure of it—and if not, he’d take his woman out for dinner once they were done.

Grocery shopping could wait.

After grabbing the hot container out of the microwave, he moved to his deck, sitting on a chair that got infrequent use.

Mostly from other people.

He was too busy to sit out here, except on the odd night.

But he liked the space, and he liked that he’d built the deck himself. Well, Rafe had helped and his brothers, too, but he’d picked out the design, the materials, organized the delivery. He’d shopped for the furniture.
