“You?” He inclines his head toward me, an eyebrow raised. “You sleep. Lie down like a good girl. I’ll wait here until you drift off.”
It doesn’t sound like a comforting gesture. Still, left with no choice, I lie down anyway, putting my back to him.
He laughs, but doesn’t make a move to touch me.
“I think I’d beat the shit out of you as well,” he says in a dangerous voice. “If doing so made you fuck me like that every night. I’m not a fan, but I don’t deny…” He chuckles, but his genuine appreciation laces his tone—and fury. Without warning, he must snatch a piece of my hair, tugging hard. “Those noises you made gave you away. You’ve been faking it with me, after all this time, Tiena. Dirtyfucking liar.”
I shiver, unnerved. There’s no use in arguing with him. So, I don’t. “Was I?” I ask.
I wouldn’t know.
“Go to sleep,Tiena,” he says, letting me go. “I’ll think up a fitting punishment for you, though. I’ll have all the time in the world to learn what makes you scream.”
That doesn’t sound good.
“I can think of one way,” I tell him hoarsely. “Fuck me like your dream woman, and we’ll call it even. You held back with me too.”
“Ah… But I never promised you my soul, did I? I never promised you shit. Honesty is how you curry favor with me,Tiena. Not threats.”
He has a point. Dear God, he has a point.
As delirious as I am, that statement triggers a reaction from me I can’t suppress. When I eventually wake up, I’ll know better than to hope I’ll find the sweet dreams he promised me.
I’ll only discover a new phase to this nightmare, and Jaguar will be waiting for me, ready to devour me whole.
But this time, I want it to be on my terms, however fragile they may be.
“I’m not Tiena,” I croak, my voice muffled, eyes drifting shut despite how fiercely I struggle to stay coherent. Still, I manage to push out two more words, though I have no idea how they land. “…I’m Lupita.”
