I roll my eyes at him. “And why should you care? Why are you really sticking around?”

His jaw ticks and I see an ounce of hurt in his expression. “Before I found out about Katrina, I got into some trouble. Someone told me to go to Neil and his boys for help. They didn’t tell me that once you owe the Iron Elite, they don’t fucking let you go. By the time I found out what they were doing, I was already stuck. Those fuckers rape and kill women, and no one does shit about it. They’re fucking scum and everyone knows, and no one does anything.”

“I’m doing something,” I reply, my voice softer than I expected. He raises an eyebrow at me.

“I don’t know if partying with one of them hard enough for him to OD quite counts, love,” he says sardonically. I bristle, but he holds a hand up before I can reply. “Sorry, that was a low blow. Listen, we both want the same thing, to get back at these assholes. The organization is too big, but at least I can try to make those directly responsible pay. Why not work together? We want the same thing.”

I raise an eyebrow. “The same thing?”

He coughs, but the corner of his mouth turns up. “I was thinking more leave their lives in ruins than, you know, murder, but I can’t deny there’s a certain appeal.”

He cracks his knuckles and I look at him appreciatively. I’ve gotten quite used to reading men, but Killian is a bit unique. At first, I thought he might have been gay; second, maybe just a more ‘beta’ type guy. Though in my experience, usually those guys’ names are things like Kyle or Dylan.

Killian, however, has a sort of male alpha assurance but without the overtness to it. He’s confident but doesn’t need to prove it. It’s a strange comparison to most of the men I’ve been with, but I can’t lie when I say it’s a turn on.

It occurs to me that I do have a very simple way of making sure he’s onboard with what I need to happen. For some reason, this man’s confidence throws me off a bit. But at the end of the day I always have my skills.

I smile, leaning forward to place a hand on his chest.

“I’m sure that—”

He darts out and grabs my wrist, pulling it from his chest.

“No games,” he says, his voice low and even. His eyes meet mine and I feel my core clench as I lick my lips. It’s been some time since I felt attracted to a man, much less one that rejected me.For now, anyway.

“No games,” I concede, and he releases my wrist. I smirk and stand, chugging the last of the vodka in my glass. “But, if you aren’t gonna play with me then I’m going back to bed.”

I point at the door and he frowns.

“Echo, we really should—”

“Nope,” I interrupt. “Sleep. Then plotting world domination.”

“World domination?”

“Ah, sleep first.” I wink. “You can let yourself out, right?”

I head to my bedroom, making sure to sashay my hips just a little extra.

“Echo, we need to still talk about this,” he calls after me.

“After sleep,” I shout back, “You can stay here if you want, just save me some vodka.”

I close the door behind me and drop back into my bed.

More sleep, then I sort out all of this nonsense.

Chapter Ten

Love Don’t Lie

Killian

‘The fucking woman baffles me’ is the first thing I think as I walk through the townhouse complex she lives in and back to my car. I’m pretty sure I’ve run my hands through my hair a dozen times, and I’m positive it's standing on end.

Infuriating woman! My dick is rock hard thinking about her prancing around in her tiny t-shirt and panties. Everything she does is just more sensual, somehow. Even biting into that greasy ass sandwich. The moan she made?

My dick twitches again, thinking about it.
