I stop, both my eyebrows rising to my hairline as I smack my thigh with a laugh.

“Damn, boy! And here I thought you were gonna hold me back,” I reply with a wink, and he rolls his eyes. I laugh lightly. “I like where your head is, but if I’m not mistaken, Neil has a lot of clubs. Taking one out would piss him off, but not cripple him. Plus, we’d need to make sure they are all there. If they weren’t, then neither of us would have access to them after.”

“True,” he admits, “You must have plans, then. Was Serg part of it?”

“I’ll admit, that one wasn’t one hundred percent to plan, but I worked with what I had. And what I had was copious amounts of drugs and a guy that will stick anything up his nose.”

“That’s most of them,” he mutters, and I nod.

“I expected Peter to be the one to go by drugs, to be honest. I have a tainted stash at home that I was going to use for him, but after Serg, I don’t know if that would be too obvious.”

Killian considers this.

“Only if you’re there for it,” he replies thoughtfully. “What if you replaced his own stash or something?”

I stop walking and Killian turns around to stare at me.

“You really are okay with this?”

The corner of his lip turns up, and he steps up closer to me.

“A beautiful woman randomly enters my life, and it turns out she wants revenge on a group of despicable people who fucked my life up and killed someone I love.” I feel flutters in my stomach as he gets closer until he’s only inches away. “I never said I was a good person either, Echo. I may not have raped women like those fuckers, but the shit I’ve done? That I’ve let happen?” He pauses and shakes his head as though to dispel those thoughts. “Yes, I want this.”

I look into his eyes until he puts out a hand.

“Partners?”

The corner of my mouth turns up, and I put my hand in his.

“Okay, but for the record, I don’t think I’ve spent this much time around a man who wasn’t giving me lots and lots of orgasms. So, you know, work on that.”

I turn and keep walking, leaving a baffled Killian behind me.

I have a feeling I am going to enjoy fucking with him.

Chapter Twelve

Heat of the Moment

Echo

The following night, when I’m halfway through my transformation to some kind of mermaid, Dee walks through the back.

“Arturo, I just need to pee,” I tell him quickly. The old man starts to mutter curses but waves me off. I jump up and follow after Dee.

“Hey, Lady Dee,” I say as I step into line beside her. She looks over at me but doesn’t stop her motions, dropping costumes at each seat with small cards of music lists.

“Hello, Echo. How are you today?”

I frown at the formal tone and put a hand lightly on her arm. She stops to look at me.

“I wanted to see how Krystal was, I haven’t seen her today. Is she working?” I ask, curious about what happened to her after I left her with James. Dee’s mouth thins and tightens, and I know I’ve hit a sore spot.

“She won’t be employed here any longer,” Dee replies smartly before leaning forward, her voice dropping so only I can hear. “And I would recommend not asking about former employees.”

Dee looks into my eyes and I see the warning there and nod once before she walks away.

One more down because of Neil.
