I park a few blocks away and make my way over to Eternity on foot, using the forest at its rear to aid the darkness in hiding me. We’re far enough from town that there is little traffic here, and there aren’t any buildings close enough to have to worry about.

Its location is just one of those many things I should have considered more when I was scoping this place out, but other than thinking it mildly odd, I never paid it much mind. Now, I wonder if the more remote location is just hiding more of their activities, whatever they may be.

Black leggings and soft-soled boots, along with the tight black sweater, are perfect for moving stealthily through the night. For the occasion, I even wore my pearl bracelet, to keep me strong and remind me why I’m here.

“A pretty bracelet for a pretty girl,” he says with a grin.

I smile, even though the freshwater pearls aren’t really my taste. I hold out my wrist and he snaps it into place.

“So, what should we do next? I heard the Ritz-Carlton in Abama is amazing,” I hint. I’ve always wanted to stay there, but no way I’m paying that much a night to do it. Neil’s face darkens slightly, but the smile stays on his lips.

“Actually, I know of a special place we can go. A real special kind of party. A girl like you will fit right in….”

It doesn’t take me long to jog the two miles before I see the faint lights through the trees. I slow down and keep my eyes open, my entire body hyperaware. Approaching from the east, I’m able to see most of the parking lot. It’s empty.

Perfect.

Making my way around the building, I confirm the back lot is empty too before sitting back on my heels to think. There’s a two-and-a-half-foot pipe bomb in my bag that feels heavy on my back and soul.

“You’re sure you can handle this?” Killian asks for what feels like the millionth time. I roll my eyes at him.

“Yes, I can handle this.”

He runs his hand through his hair, his brow creased with worry.

“Maybe we should wait, or something. We can figure out another night or—”

I smile, bringing my hands up to grasp his face and bring it down to my lips.

“Don’t worry so much, we have it all planned out. I won’t even have the detonator on me. You and I will come back tomorrow night to finish this.”

“I still don’t like it.”

I lick my lips before biting the bottom one.

“Have I told you how sweet it is that you worry?”

I feel myself tighten in memory of what happened after that, and I can’t keep the smile from my lips. The man certainly hasn’t left me wanting in that department.

Shaking the dirty thoughts from my mind, I take one more look around before creeping from the bush toward Eternity.

Using the key Killian left for me, I make my way in through the back door, closing it quietly behind me. The silence inside is almost overwhelming. My heart’s pounding seems loud to my own ears. Keeping my eyes open, I creep through the club and head toward the stairs.

It takes me less than twenty minutes to place, hide, and ready the bomb as planned. With the detonator connected to our cell phones, there is nothing to do but wait for the right people to be within the building, and none of the wrong ones.

My heart is finally slowing down as I make my way down the stairs. I’m about to pull out my phone to text Killian when a sound has me freezing.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here, boys?”

My blood runs cold. It feels like time is in slow motion as I turn to see Neil standing there with the other three around him. I didn’t even hear them come in.

My mind races with options, but really, I have no excuse for being here. It takes a force of will not dart a glance at the stairs where the bomb is hidden. I let a smile brighten my face, though I bring a hand up to my heart as though surprised.

“Hey, sugar, you scared me! Didn’t think you guys would be here so late. I just came to pick up—”

“Enough of the bullshit, sweetheart,” James interjects. Neil takes a step toward me. Peter moves to the left. I take a step back to keep them all in my vision.

“I don’t know what you’re—”
