Neil’s chest is heaving as he turns the corner, pure rage written on his face. Tanner comes up only a second behind him, slightly more winded but an equally murderous expression. I hear Peter’s coughs in the distance and know he won’t be the one to worry about.

Drugs are bad, I think as I grin, letting the mania I feel pour over me, even as I have to lean over and cough.

Don’t let them catch you unaware.

“What the fuck did you do?” he growls as he takes a step closer.

“You fucked with the wrong chick,” I tell him through a laugh-cough. “Now, come and get me, bitch. Let’s finish this.” His eyes narrow, but he stops moving forward.

Come on, keep coming toward me, you fucker.

“You fucking cun—” Tanner comes at me.

My eyes widen as he comes barreling toward me. No place to go. Shifting my weight as best as I can, I dodge the larger body coming at me and twist around so he isn’t behind me.

“Gonna have to catch me,” I tease as he hurls himself forward, swinging with abandon. I dodge him easily, his anger and quickly degrading stamina working in my favor.

He rushes at me again. I move aside, letting him pass me. His chest is heaving, and I can see him get angrier by the second.

I cough again and feel myself get lightheaded.

We need to get out of here, fast.

Peter turns the corner at this second, out of breath but with narrow eyes. He has a burn down his side and I wonder if they tried to get out through the upstairs already.

“Enough of this shit,” Neil says before stepping toward me.

I don’t move, letting the three of them get closer but keeping my eyes on them. My chest heaves with exertion, and it’s obvious how much harder it is to breathe already.

They’re only a few feet away, almost within reach, when I grin.

“Now!”

Savannah and Rachel shout as they come hurtling out of the corner of their cells. I see the men’s eyes widen as their focus is taken from me. My own jaw drops when Savannah lets off a raspy screech before bringing a piece of metal down on Peter’s head.

Where the fuck did she get that?

I don’t have time to consider it further before his eyes go distant, and he crumples to the ground.

Rachel has somehow dived on Tanner's back as is clawing at his face. I look at Neil. He looks at me for only a moment before he turns and runs.

Fucking coward!

I look and confirm Savannah and Rachel have Tanner under control before I push myself forward. Leaning against the wall, I cough and feel my vision darken again.

I hear a cry of distress behind me but don’t stop.

I can’t let Neil get away.

Through squinted eyes, I look forward. I can’t tell if it's smoke or just my fading vision, but Neil seems so far away. I see him stop ahead of me to lean against a wall, coughing loudly.

I can’t fail now.

Dragging myself against the wall, I keep going even as I struggle to get a clean breath. I blink to clear my vision, but it doesn’t do anything.

The last thing I think as I sag to the floor is how much I want Killian’s arms around me. I vaguely see Neil crashing to the floor as my vision fades. A smile tugs on my lips.
