“From what it sounds, she got fucking lucky,” I point out. “Besides, Eternity was one tiny fucking piece. Bitch needs to learn to quit while she’s ahead.”

“Watch it,” Kill warns, and I smirk at him, bringing the cigarette back up to my mouth and taking a deep drag.

“So, what’s with the silver-haired chick anyway?” he asks, nodding their way.

I shrug.

“She needed help, I helped. She’ll be back home soon as everything quiets a bit, that’s all,” I reply.

“Seems like a bit more to it than that,” he comments, and I glare at him.

“Fuck off,” I tell him succinctly. Across the room, there’s a small cry and my eye shoots over to Kinsey who put her face in her hands. I make a move toward them, but stop myself as Echo puts a hand on her back, and I hear Killian chuckle beside me.

“Yeah, I’m sure that’s all.”

Rise Up

“I can’t help it,”I tell her as tears pour from my eyes. “I have barely even thought about them since I left and to think about the stuff they’re doing every day…”

The thought of Jaime and the other girls going through the things Echo did horrifies me. That Echo is amazed I left the Iron Elite with as much of my integrity as I did is equally terrifying, and I wonder what would have happened to me if not for Atlas.

My monstrous saviour.

“Stop it,” Echo says harshly, pulling my face up and wiping the tears from my cheeks. The familiarity is slightly strange, but not unwelcome. “Your tears help no one. We’ll get them out.”

I nod miserably, but stop, looking toward Atlas who is across the room watching me like a hawk as he smokes cigarette after cigarette.

“He left them all there.” My voice is quiet, and she peeks at what I’m looking at and sighs.

“Don’t blame him,” Echo says and I look up at her. “Men have a funny way of putting blinders on when a woman they love is involved. He needed to get you out and he did; don’t blame him for caring more about you than for people he doesn’t know.”

“But that’s just it. It shouldn’t matter if you know them or not. He could have done—”

“I guarantee you, there is nothing he could have done,” Echo interrupts me. “But there is something we can do now. And I’m going to need your help to convince him.”

Shook Me All Night Long

“Not a fucking chance,”I tell the three of them, receiving three icy stares in return. “Youalldorealize I’m a fucking member, right? Are you fucking stupid?”

The last question is directed at Echo and Kill.

“You really are an asshole, you know that?” Echo replies. “Too fucking worried about your own goddamn stupid club to care about all the women getting raped by ‘members’. Who’s the really stupid one?”

My jaw clenches, and I’ve seldom had such difficulty remembering I don’t hit women. Leaning forward, I poke a finger at her chest.

“Your problem, not fucking mine.”

“Atlas—” Kill begins, but is interrupted by a much smaller voice.

“I have to go back for them,” Kinsey says, stepping forward after being quiet for the entirety of the conversation.
