Page 70 of Her Last Audition

I have to resist the urge to jump across the desk and punch him for calling Kinsey a whore, but instead just gnash my teeth with a nod. I need to call Phil and get her to get Kinsey back to the warehouse right away.

“Anything else?”

“Fuck this up, and the girl comes back to replace one of the ones we lost.”

I’m makingmy way through the halls as fast as I can, not willing to call Phil or expose where Kinsey is inside these walls. As I approach the exit, I hear loud voices from outside including one that’s familiar. I frown as I step outside.

“Riot, what the fuck are you doing?” I interrupt the large man who looks like he’s about to get shot by one of the guards.

“Tell these fucking morons I’m cool,” Riot says, not taking his eyes off the guard in front of him.

“What are you doing here?” I ask him again and he narrows his eyes, finally turning to me with a hint of hesitation in his response.

“I was coming to see the girls and these assholes won’t let me in,” he says. “Why? What happened?” He must see something in my face, and I realize I’m going to have to tell Kinsey too that some of her friends are dead.

“He’s with me, he’s fine,” I tell the guards and then nod at Riot. “Come on. Now.”

Riot glares at the guards a moment longer before following me.

“What the fuck is going on around here, man?” Riot asks as we walk away. I don’t say anything to him, instead pulling out my phone and dialing Phil.

It continues to ring and I feel myself pale.

“Man, what the fuck is going on?” Riot asks again and I ignore him, dialing Phil one more time.

“Fuck! Phil, fucking call me right away,” I bark into the voicemail, and click the phone off and resist the urge to hurl it at the ground.

“You’re really starting to fucking piss me off here.”

“Can you shut up for one fucking second!”

Riot’s eyebrows raise and he barks out a laugh, giving me a mock salute.

“Alright, boss. Whatever you say.”

I look down, willing Phil to call me back as I squeeze the plastic in my hand.

There’s no fucking way, I tell myself.

I think back to the night of the auction, how fucking mad he was.

It seems like I’m not the only one obsessed with the silver-haired goddess.

“We need to go to the mall,” I say to myself as much as Riot. Maybe Phil’s phone is off or on silent or something. I refuse to believe the alternative. “I need you to come, got a feeling I’m going to need your help finding someone.”

“Alright, man, but seriously, what is happening back there? I went to visit this hot bitch there and they wouldn’t let me in, it was some weird shit.”

I dart a glance over at him. Is he hooked on one of the whores? Telling him what happened inside will help nothing right now so I decide to keep that part to myself.

“One of the members went ape; I have a bad fucking feeling he’s looking for Kinsey.”

“Oh shit.”

“Yeah, shit is right.”

“And where is she now?”

“Out,” I tell him through gritted teeth. “Phil took her shopping and now he isn’t answering.”
