Eli smacks the back of my head mid-bite, and I spew eggs over the table.

“Ow!” He reaches up and grabs the hair at the back of my head, yanking my head back, and I let you a cry of pain as I lock eyes with him.

“Have some fucking manners when you eat,” he all but spits in my face before shoving my head back down.

I go back to my food more carefully.

I will survive this.

Symphony of Destruction

We pourover old records for the entire night, and it isn’t until about 3AM when I look up and notice the time. I blink through gritty eyes and look around, noting Riot has passed out with his phone in hand and is snoring lightly.

I look up and see Echo looking back at me, her eyes also rimmed with redness. She chuckles, putting down a pile of papers she’s holding on to.

“Holy shit, I didn’t realize how late it got,” she says through a yawn, pulling out her phone and typing off a message. “Kill will be here in the morning. Do you have somewhere I can crash for a few hours?”

I nod and stand, leading her over to my office. I can’t bring myself to let her stay in Kinsey’s room.

“Couch there. There should be some blankets and shit around here somewhere.”

Echo nods. “Thanks, that’s perfect.”

I start to turn back when her voice stops me.

“Atlas?”

“Mmm?”

“Are you doing okay?”

I frown, and see her face light up.

“I know you don’t like me, but I’m not a heartless bitch. Well, not heartless, anyway. We made some good progress tonight and can follow up on those leads in a few hours. We got this, we’ll get her, okay?”

My chest feels tight at her words, and though she’s right about the first part, I am grateful for the support in my corner. I may not like this bitch, but so far, she’s been good on her word. Loyalty counts for a fucking lot in my books.

I give her a nod, which seems to be enough because she smiles and turns back to the office, closing the door behind her.

I rub a hand down my face and head back to the break room. I debate leaving Riot where he is, but maybe lack of sleep is softening me too because I nudge him with my foot. He jerks away, his phone flying as his hand falls immediately to the knife on his belt. He waves it around frantically looking for the threat.

I would have done the same, which is why I stood back after waking him.

“Fucker, go to the couch,” I nod toward the small couch. Riot blinks blearily, but after a moment, he’s cramming his huge form onto the loveseat. Within a minute, he’s snoring again.

I go back to the sheets Echo was looking at, letting my eyes roam over all we found tonight.

Tomorrow, we make some moves on this, and maybe, just maybe, find Kinsey.

I don’t intendto fall asleep but must have because I wake to the sound of pounding on the warehouse door, my head jerking up. Riot is on his feet in an instant too, and we look at each other before I head over to the door.

“It’s Kill, he just messaged me,” Echo pokes her head out of the office to shout.

I open the door to find Kill standing by it.
